2018: Announcement of a product
In the middle of January, 2019 Amazon entered the software market for backup and disaster recovery of data (backup and disaster recovery, BDR) on which the company should compete, for example, with Veeam Software and Rubrik.
AWS Backup became the first such product from Amazon. It represents completely managed service which can save both cloud, and local data.
AWS Backup works with the management console of AWS Management Console and offers the following main features:
- Automation. Service allows to create politicians who determine the frequency of creation of backup copies and storage lives;
- Data protection in a cloud. Backup is possible in a case with Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon of EBS), Amazon Elastic File System (Amazon of EFS), Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon of RDS) and AWS Storage Gateway.
- Protection of local data. Data backup of local applications is performed through integration of AWS Backup with AWS Storage Gateway - it is the general method to protect local data in cloud infrastructure of Amazon Web Services (AWS).
As for support third-party IaaS both PaaS- Microsoft Azure Google Cloud services (i) and SaaS- solutions (Office 365 Salesforce.com etc.), did not mention Amazon it in the message. According to ChannelE2E edition sources, the company is concentrated on expansion in AWS Backup of support of AWS services.[1]
Provided to Amazon service for backup and disaster recovery of data in several days after announced purchase of the CloudEndure company just specializing in such technologies. Interlocutors of ChannelE2E say that the new product is not connected with this acquisition.
