Violin XVS is a series of storage systems.
2018: XVS8
On November 14, 2018 the Violin Systems LLC company announced expansion of family of storage systems model — XVS8. According to the company, XVS8 from the pioneer of the all-flash market of DWH provides performance with small response time and provides services for work with data of the corporate level. It allows users of solutions of Violin not only to accelerate work of the applications, critical for business, but also to increase efficiency of the IT infrastructure, having reduced both initial costs by its creation, and operating costs of support and administration.
Violin XVS 8 provides to users a full range of services and services of the enterprise level: "the stretched cluster", synchronous mirroring and asynchronous remote replication, the WAN optimized replication, the instant pictures approved with the application, "thin" and "thick" copies of data, the deduplication and data compression included separately for each logical volume.
Violin simplifies work of clients, allowing to include or turn off deduplication and compression on separate LUN for ensuring high performance and at the same time effective storage of some applications and extreme performance and the minimum delays of other applications on the same storage system.
Support 32Gb provides to FC of connections capacity and the minimum delays. For November, 2018 for connection of this functionality it is enough to update storage system software, hardware support goes in delivery.
Among opportunities of XVS8 there is a predictive analytics. Use this and last (for November, 2018 up to 2 years) statistics of system operation for prediction of her behavior in the future and obtaining recommendations about change of settings. Well mobile application allowing to obtain in real time data on system operation. For this purpose it is enough to scan the QR code on a front panel of an array. This functionality allows the administrator to obtain information on the current performance of each logical volume, the forecast of exhaustion of capacity and the forecast of future loading and also to foreknow as a system at this profile of loading will work.
XVS 8 is integrated into an ecosystem of Splunk and displays operating parameters on Splunk monitoring panel. Integration with VMware of VASA 3.0 displays information on storage and allows to execute exact layer management of VM directly of vSphere, including replication of logical volumes and instant pictures. XVS 8 also has the built-in support of VVOL.
XVS8 is created in body 3U, and onboard has processors Broadwell Xeon and 768 GB of RAM with capacity of 8 GB/sec., 8 NVMe ports over FC 32gbit/sek (or 8 ISCSI ports 10gbit/sek) that provides such parameters of performance as: 50 microsec at 1 million IOPS (100% of reading, the size of the block 4K, NVMe over FC); 400 microsec at 1 million IOPS; 1 ms at 340 thousand IOPS and simultaneous deduplication.
Crude capacity of one array is from 26 Tb to 140 Tb, specialized modules of memory of VIMM are used that provides of 2:47 p.m. Tb up to 88.7 Tb spaces of the storage available to users without deduplication and 96-512 TB after compression and deduplication. For November, 2018 the efficiency of deduplication improved for 40% in comparison with the systems of the previous generation.[1]
