2019: Disclosure of source codes

In March, 2019 Intel opened source codes of the Computer Vision Annotation Tool (CVAT) tool intended for a marking of photos and video for the purpose of acceleration of training of deep neural networks.

Training of AI models requires a large number of the marked data. The problem is aggravated when the large companies try to process hundreds of thousands of objects. There are many methods to prepare data, however existence of a specialized software repeatedly accelerates this process. Therefore for the purpose of increase in efficiency and quality of a marking of Intel created own CVAT tool.

Intel opened source codes of the tool for a marking of a photo and video. It accelerates training of neuronets

The main objective of this service consists in providing a marking of data sets to the user of convenient and effective remedies. CVAT is created as the universal project supporting different types and formats of a marking.

Within CVAT the set of tools for copying and distribution of objects, use of filters, setup of visual parameters, automatic annotation using API for detection of objects is provided to Google TensorFlow Framework, etc.

To end users of CVAT it is available as the web application working in the browser. It supports different scenarios of work and can be used both for personal, and for team work. Intel selects the main objectives of machine learning which can be solved using this tool:

  • Detecting of objects
  • Pattern discrimination
  • Segmentation of images

The CVAT installation in a local network is performed by means of several commands due to  Docker application. In the tool automation of process of a marking is implemented. Interpolation, for example, allows to receive a marking on a set of the frames, during the real work only on some key. CVAT is suitable for embedding to more multipurpose platforms, note in Intel.

By the beginning of March, 2019 CVAT is in development process. The tool was thoroughly tested only in the Chrome browser.[1]
