Russian business intelligence: yesterday, today, tomorrow

In Moscow there took place the conference devoted to the general perspective of import substitution in the market of BI and also to technologies, solutions and business cases of the Foresight company beginning to work at the market as the distributor, as a result of become large vendor of solutions in the field of a business intelligence, business process automation and mobile solutions for business.

Plenary session

Vladimir Komov, the CEO of Foresight opened work of a plenary session. In welcome speech he emphasized that now all products of the company are promoted under a uniform brand – Foresight. The speaker declared the different approach to long-term forecasting implemented in analytical developments of the company is the active forecast on the basis of up-to-date short-term data allowing to predict development of the situation in business, economy, the social sphere. The active forecast assumes as well planning of actions which will provide achievement of goals, the speaker noted.

Our purpose for the next year – to look narrowly at world trends to introduce them on the Russian market, – Vladimir Komov told. – Import substitution – not just replacement of good foreign software on domestic software, is replacement by even more effective, best domestic system in the class.

Among the current tasks the speaker selected preparation of solutions for certification on requirements of FSTEC and FSB, inclusion of developments of the company in the register of domestic software, further development of partnership with Postgres Professional. In conclusion the speaker emphasized that the company is focused in the Russian market, but supports also the international partners.

Ilya Massukh, the director of Competence Center of import substitution in the field of ICT, told about normative and organizational basis of import substitution in the country, about the place in these processes of the Center created in 2015 and initially independent of regulators and IT market.

For a start the speaker reminded conferees that the largest western corporations already refuse delivery of products even to the Russian companies which are not appearing in any sanctions lists so customers face impossibility further to do business.

In conclusion the speaker called some standard problems of an organizational part of import substitution in government institutions:

  • "plans for plan development" of import substitution are created, i.e. instead of replacement of software a certain list of actions for making decision on transition, instead of actually transition is announced;
  • preparatory activities are dragged out in time;
  • there are no implementation terms.

The association became the expert platform for consolidation of players of the market on key questions of market development, the speaker at the beginning of the performance noted, and 160 developer companies of drawing software solutions include. The main activities – import substitution, support of export of the Russian software, the help to the companies in attraction of financing, promotion of the Russian software in the field of education, response to modern calls and normative initiatives by entry into the commissions, the working groups.

Renat Lashin noted that there are four types of compatibility of products:

  • declarative when the developer declares compatibility of the solution with other system;
  • bilateral when two developers declare compatibility of the products;
  • independent examination when the compatibility is confirmed by experts;
  • successful experience of implementation.

More than 100 companies voted for creation of the relevant committee as a part of Association which became the expert platform on confirmation of compatibility of products, Renat Lashin noted. The speaker emphasized that there are already tens of examples of the vertically integrated end-to-end systems based on domestic software. The committee keeps the directory of compatibility of the Russian software which can be interesting to purchasers, customers as the additional knowledge base.

In 2018 there was a work on the BI platform for development of complex analytical applications, the first version "Foresight was as a result released . Analytical platform". Instruments of designing of analytical models and calculations are added to the platform, in particular, the platform core for ensuring high performance of calculations is modified, there was a possibility of correction of the started copies of business processes, open program API for management by them, recording of business processes and many other things is implemented. Based on this platform the solution of the company "Foresight is issued . Budgeting", capable to solve both complex problems of formation of budgets, and niche. The solution is intended, respectively, for the companies of any level, including large corporations.

Our company constantly expands technology partnership. For example, a technology partner in the field of integration with Big Data is Arenadata, – Yulia Kudryavtseva told. – Due to sharing of our solutions performance of accomplishment of requests over Big Data will be increased. Other technology partner is the company SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF SOKB supplying the certified solution of a class to the market MDM (SafePhone). Sharing of this solution with "Forsythe. Mobile platform" will close all requirements of the company of any size for the development area and supports of mobile solutions.

"Mobile BI" – one more product announced in this report. The mobile application created so far only for tablets under iOS and Android will be put on the market at the end of April, 2019. The product will develop towards data processing offline, ensuring operation of application on mobile phones.

One more announcement – the Self Service BI tool within a product "Foresight. Analytical platform". It will be the tool of the analysis and data view focused on the business user - so characterized future system of Yuli Kudryavtsev, and a product initially cross-platform, capable to function on any device. Requirements are worked already out, by the end of 2019 the company is going to come to a viable product (so-called minimum viable product), and in the long term the solution will be also cloud.

The deputy CEO of Postgres Professional company Ivan Panchenko highly appreciated cooperation with Foresight company and also told about abilities to integrate DBMS PostgressPro and solutions of Foresight.

The speaker mentioned the joint project with Foresight company on creation of a system of public administration of the Vologda region, having listed also the general directions of cooperation:

  • completion of DBMS for improvement of work of products Foresight;
  • vendor support of the database at operation and implementation;
  • joint package product.

Business cases

At a conference there took place two sessions – technology where the possibilities of solutions and technologies Foresight, and a business session within which it was told about experience of implementation of different products of the company were considered.

Nikita Tataurov, the analyst on information systems of Danone company who told about the analysis system implemented in the company and forecasting of sales, effect of implementation of this project opened a subject of implementations of a business intelligence from Foresight company. The solution was brought into commercial operation in December, 2018 for the purpose of solving of tasks of short-term and long-term forecasting.

Among the purposes of creation there was an increase in accuracy and quality of short-term forecasting that is especially important for the company working with perishable products, standardization of process of cleaning of a sales history on all network and constructions in short term of the sales forecast, accumulation of a sales history in a uniform resource, reduction of number of manual adjustments and errors of input. All these objectives in the project progress were achieved, the speaker emphasized.

It was succeeded to be closed at all points, - Nikita Tataurov noted. - Process of cleaning of a sales history is standardized for all Russia, and these are fifty warehouses, about three thousand clients, more than one thousand accounting units of products in a warehouse.

Maxim Perlov, the Head of Department of analytics and mathematical modeling of Saprun - the company having wide experience on implementation of mathematical modeling and the analysis in production companies of the most different fields of activity continued and developed scope of use of tools of advanced analytics from Foresight.

The speaker listed business problems which effectively are solved on the basis of tools Foresight - it is financial and economic modeling, the analysis and modeling of demand, optimization of the production program, logistic chains, the plan for replacement and repair of the equipment, an investment program of the enterprise.

Maxim Perlov in detail told about features and results of the solution of business challenges on each of these directions of optimization, giving in each case examples of implementing solutions of Foresight in the companies from the different fields of economy.

The speaker especially selected the synergy effect arising when optimization is performed not in one of the directions, and in a complex, for example – by simultaneous optimization of the production program and work plans on repair of the equipment or, as in a case with a case in the large metallurgical company when were at the same time optimized sale, the production program and investments.

About pilot implementing solution "Foresight. Budgeting", soft junction of the pilot in the full project implemented in the oil company was told by two speakers. Standard problems of the company – separate information systems, lack of uniform space of planning, preparation of the reporting and analytics in Excel, consolidation of data in the manual mode were premises for implementation of pilot implementation. Establishing process of approval of budget forms for the purpose of reduction of terms of preparation of the production program was the most important task.

The pilot is successfully implemented and passes into the project, - noted Marín Alekseev. - Within the pilot integration with the different systems was made, the prototype of a system, more than 30 production forms is created, more than 30 divisions and hundred users participate in process.

The speaker noted that the main arguments for benefit of the choice of the solution "Foresight. Budgeting" became:

  • flexibility, including the built-in opportunities for change of functionality without programming;
  • domestic origin of a system with a multidimensional data model and BI tools with enhanced capabilities on reporting;
  • successful creation of a prototype of a system prior to the beginning of the project.

Mikhail Fedorov told about the system prototype including:

  • module of input, control and data analysis;
  • module of approval and monitoring;
  • the integration module with external systems based on Postgres Pro DBMS – integration into the production MySQL portal, with accounting of 1C and the Oracle database of Primavera.

Among key advantages of a product "Foresight. The analytical platform", caused the choice of this solution, Shamil Mukhametdinov called support server operating systems of family Linux and also compatibility with the DBMS wide list PostgreSQL including Postgres Pro.

On project implementation about five months left in total, – the speaker noted. – Three months after signing of the contract and two on a preliminary stage. At the same time quite big labor costs left on integration about SIEI – about 25% of the general.

The project is successfully complete in December, 2018, user training to independent creation of the OLAP reports and analytical panels is provided, training in simulars and forecasting of the platform is planned. According to the results of the project Shamil Mukhametdinov stated a real possibility of creation of modern regional information management systems – with the modern design, powerful tools capable to solve modern problems.

The report on the schedule system and the corporate reporting implemented in Transneft company was made by the expert in products Foresight Alexander Kruk.

The speaker noted that according to the results of the project the corporate system consists of four modules:

  • input, control and the analysis of the entered data;
  • approval and system of its monitoring;
  • integration with external systems;
  • module of formation of the analytical reporting.

Work of users is organized via the web interface, reports can be unloaded in the Excel format, to modify and again to load in a system. The speaker voiced the main results of implementation:

  • implementation of uniform corporate space of reporting;
  • reduction of time of report generation;
  • exception of errors due to control of the entered data and unification of methods of formation and consolidation of the reporting;
  • increase in transparency of process due to approval monitoring;
  • increase in completeness of the reporting due to integration with adjacent corporate systems.

During the project integration with external systems was implemented, data via the corporate bus arrive in the XML format, - Alexander Kruk told. – Reports are unloaded in electronic archive, if necessary – are loaded in a system back. There are mechanisms of approval of appointment of responsible persons for each step, everything remains in the history with comments"

Within development of the project, the speaker concluded, increase in speed of work with big reports, adding of a possibility of independent setup of forms by users is planned, migration is planned for upgraded version of the platform.

The customer management cycle in different sources is provided differently, the speaker noted, and at the same time there are commonly accepted stages of work with clients – involvement, development, cooperation, deduction and return. According to stages, clients are new, active, loyal and disloyal.

Within one of cases of increase in monetization of the existing customer base about which the speaker told the project orderer worked at mature, competitive market, a project objective was – to take money from the big customer base which was available at the customer. It was necessary to increase efficiency of the promo-companies, having created the effective mechanism of formation of selections of clients for promotion of the and partner services. For this purpose on the first step selected clients with similar preferences, on the second, using algorithms of machine learning, the forecasting model of a response to the marketing company based on the previous customer interactions was created. As a result the conversion gain on different products of the customer made from 15 to 112%.

In the completing part the master class was held by Maxim Potashev, the director of the company of RP Consulting. In a live form it submitted to listeners the broad picture of process of acceptance of the right decision including the description of strategy of thinking, selection terms, distancing methods from a situation and even entertaining travel to Aristotle's times. At the end of the performance the speaker offered participants of a master class own mathematical formula for trust degree assessment to opinion of the expert if like that participates in decision making process.
