2023: Creation of the Kub-E kamikaze drone

On May 16, 2023, the Kalashnikov concern announced the creation of the Kub-E kamikaze drone. The company will show this and a number of other products at the international arms exhibition MILEX-2023 in Minsk in May 2023.

Kub-E was developed by ZALA Aero, a member of the Kalashnikov group. The device has already passed all the state tests recognized as successful. As the Kalashnikov concern swore, there are no drones on the world market with similar mass and size indicators. It measures 1210 by 950 by 165 millimeters. He is able to carry a payload of up to three kilograms. It develops a speed of up to 130 kilometers per hour. In flight can be up to half an hour.

As the president of the concern Alan Lushnikov noted, almost all types of weapons produced by Kalashnikov are tested in conditions of large-scale hostilities, and changes are promptly made to their design. The Kub-E barraging ammunition will also be exported.

"The complex with guided ammunition KUB-E received an export passport, which allows you to sell this product abroad. The group of companies, together with Rosoboronexport JSC, is ready to begin promoting the Kub-E UAV to the international market, including during intergovernmental commissions and international exhibitions, "the company said.

As Denis Fedutinov, a leading Russian expert in the field of unmanned aviation, noted, if ten years ago barraging ammunition was relatively not widespread and interest in them is limited, now the market will warm up with news about their effective use in some conflicts of recent years and they are turning into a kind of "must have" in the armed forces of many countries, repeating the fate of reconnaissance UAVs of a similar dimension.[1]

Placing drones on ships

Russian kamikaze drones "Kub-BLA," which know how to attack swarm, can now be placed on ships. This was announced at the end of August 2022 by the general director of the Kalashnikov concern Vladimir Lepin.

The development of the KUB-BLA line will not end there. Our experts see the need to adapt this product for operation on high-speed transport and landing boats and special-purpose ships. This work is already being carried out on an initiative basis. The possibility of maritime use can be implemented for reconnaissance and strike UAVs, he said in an interview with the National Defense magazine.

Russian kamikaze drones can now be deployed on ships

According to him, such work by the end of August 2022 is already underway on an initiative basis. In particular, such technological solutions will be proposed as an effective tool for monitoring and protecting national territorial waters, Lepin added, speaking of adapting barraging ammunition for use on ships.

Earlier in August 2022, the Kalashnikov concern reported that the KUB-BLA drones had an increased range of use, and also received the ability to carry out missions as part of a led swarm of drones.

The manufacturer calls high accuracy, ballistic unreadability and autonomy strong qualities of drones. At the same time, thanks to the electric motor, drones make little noise. In addition, drones do not need a satellite signal, they can determine coordinates from various sources and objects.

In addition to being used on boats and performing tasks in swarms, the new KUB-UAVs in 2022 received an increased flight time (up to 30 minutes) and an increased speed (from 80 to 130 km/h).[2]

Rostec told about the successful use of kamikaze drones in Ukraine

On June 8, 2022, Rostec"" talked about the successful use of To Ukraine kamikaze drones "" and Cube"Lancet." Both drones, as reported TASS with reference to a representative of the state corporation, are quite fast, silent, easy to use, capable of overcoming tens of km and have high accuracy. More. here

2019: Kamikaze drone developed in Russia

The Russian company Zala Aero, which is part of the Kalashnikov concern, developed the KUB-BLA barraging ammunition and conducted its successful tests. As Kalashnikov Media writes[3]a new kamikaze drone was created to hit ground targets with guidance on target coordinates or video channel.

Some combat missions may require reconnaissance and the earliest possible destruction of detected enemy targets. For these purposes, barraging ammunition is used, most of which are made in the form of aircraft-type drones with reconnaissance systems and a high-explosive warhead.

The advantages of barraging ammunition include not only reconnaissance and destruction of detected targets, but also the possibility of canceling the command to destroy the target. In this case, the device stops flying to the target, gains altitude and begins to circle in the air, waiting for a new operator command.

The Russian KUB-UAV is made according to the "flying wing" scheme with a pushing propeller in the tail. The drone has a length of 95 centimeters and a wingspan of 1.2 meters. The device is started using the catapult. In flight, the drone can reach speeds of up to 130 kilometers per hour.

The barraging ammunition is capable of carrying a payload, including a warhead, weighing up to 3 kilograms. The range of the KUB-UAV is not specified; duration of the aircraft flight is up to 30 minutes.
