The authorities for the first time approved launches garage in which cars park without drivers

Customers: Daimler AG

Contractors: Bosch

Project date: 2019/07

On July 23, 2019 it became known of the first case when the authorities approved for regular use of completely automatic system of the parking of vehicles.

On  entrance to  a garage in  the museum Mercedes-Benz in  Stuttgart the driver can hand over the car under management of a system of the parking then it  will independently pass to  the place allocated to it and  will park.

Such service of the pilotless parking without participation of people was officially resolved by city administration. This solution is created by a precedent in order that in the future such systems appeared in garages worldwide, the head of department of pilotless driving and active safety of Daimler Michael Hafner said.

The "smart" parking is equipped a set of the sensors developed by Bosch company which monitor a situation on the parking and transmit data to the car through the receivers created by engineers of Daimler. Besides, on the parking the cameras which monitor a situation around are mounted. If on the way of the car the obstacle appears, it will automatically stop.

A robotic system independently takes away and returns the car — participation of the person at the same time is not required. Control is exercised from the smartphone. The driver goes out of the car, starts process of the parking through the application and just leaves. The car will be parked automatically.

Admission to "roboparking" was got by the pilotless machines getting under the 4th level of autonomy. On classification of Community of automobile engineers (SAE), this level there correspond vehicles with the "smart" systems which do not assume active participation of the driver in the course of driving.

It is remarkable that the data which arrived from  test operation of the parking in  Stuttgart were considered when developing the SAE 3134 standard on  the systems of the automated driving.[1]
