2022: Instinct 2 Series Release

On February 9, 2022, Garmin International Inc., a division of Garmin Ltd., announced the release of Instinct 2 Series devices added to the line of durable smartwatches.

"The Instinct 2 Series watches are designed to make their owners visible, stand out from the crowd and live every day with brightly. However, Instinct 2 Series is not limited to an attractive appearance. They incorporate industry-relevant wrist pulse measurement technology and become a tool that will help live by its own rules, " commented by Dan Bartel, Garmin's vice president of international consumer sales.

Ability to create native versions of Instinct 2 or 2S Solar

In addition to the bright colors of the model, the Instinct 2 Series line offers a thinner case and two size options - the traditional 45 mm and Instinct 2S 40 mm, designed for users with a thinner wrist. The device is equipped with an easily readable high-resolution display and chemically reinforced glass with scratch protection. Like the Instinct and Instinct Solar Series models, the Instinct 2 devices are created in accordance with military standard 810 for protection against impact and temperature. Waterproof to a depth of 100 meters is ensured.

The Instinct 2 Series watches depart from traditional color solutions and are offered in bright options - Electric Lime, Mac and Neo-Tropic. The line includes Instinct 2 Solar models (with recharging from the sun), standard (without recharging from the sun)), Surf, Tactical and Camo editions. The options do not end there. With Garmin Your Watch, Your Way (your watch, your rules), users can create their own versions of Instinct 2 or 2S Solar of their choice. Using different combinations of bezels and straps, more than 240 combinations can be obtained.

Instinct 2 Series devices are compatible with the Garmin Connect IQ (CIQ) store, an all-in-1 platform for downloading free applications, widgets, dials, data fields, and other content. Using the CIQ store, Instinct 2 Series watch owners can download features to monitor health and wellness, such as tracking the amount of drunk fluid, leaderboard, menstrual cycle and pregnancy tracking, etc.

Extended battery life

In models of the Instinct 2 Series line of smartwatches, the battery life is significantly increased; Instinct 2 provides up to 4 weeks of continuous operation in smartwatch mode. Thanks to the development of solar cell technology, some Instinct 2 Solar models offer an unlimited period of battery life in smartwatch mode.

Instinct 2 models now contain a complete set of Garmin functions for velnes. These features include sleep scores, advanced observation of sleep parameters, and a health monitoring function to conveniently view key parameters such as Body Battery, stress, and pulse rate on a single screen. Sports fans will receive additional motivation due to the presence of functions such as VO2 Max, sports age, status/load/workout effect, recovery time, HIIT training and daily recommended workouts.

Instinct 2 Series watches come with preloaded sports applications and activities. The Multisport lesson allows you to move between classes while continuing to view the total time and distance. With Incident Detection, friends and family can watch a user's activities through text messaging, and receive alerts in the event of an emergency. If the Instinct 2 clock is associated with the Garmin Connect Mobile application and an incident is detected, the application can send a message with the user name and coordinates (if any) to the emergency contacts.

The Instinct 2 Solar models include a system contactless platezheygarmin Pay for fast payment of purchases. To pay, it is enough to raise the clock to a compatible payment terminal.

Specialized issues

For users who want to raise their hobbies to the next level, three specialized releases of Instinct 2 Series watches with additional features are offered:

• Surf Editions: Special classes for water sports (surfing, windsurfing and kiteboarding); a tide widget to provide up-to-date information on the state of the ocean. With compatibility with Surfline Sessions, users can track and view their classes later. Surfing versions are available for Instinct 2 and Instinct 2S watches with and without Solar.
• Tactical Editions: The Instinct 2 Solar model - Tactical Edition, in demand among the military, includes special tactical features: emergency shutdown, hidden mode, compatibility with night vision glasses, dual location coordinate format and "Parachute jumps" mode. Offered in beige and black.
• Camo Editions: The camouflage color of coal and smoky color allows you to become invisible or attract attention depending on the surrounding area. These models are relevant both in the present and in the urban jungle.

2020: Sun Charging

In mid-July 2020, Garmin added the function of charging solar panels to its smart watches. Solar panels were built into the Instinct, Fenix 6 and 6S and Tactix Delta models.

The solar array on the Garmin Fenix 6X Pro Solar, called Power Glass, is made in the form of a transparent layer that is placed above the display. The titanium watch body has a diameter of 51 mm and a thickness of 14.9 mm. Fenix 6 Pro Solar and Fenix 6S Pro Solar previously ran for 9 to 14 days depending on the features used. Now Garmin indicates an estimated battery life of 10.5 to 16 days with sufficient sunlight: the Fenix 6S Pro Solar is up to 10.5 days in Smart Hours, and the Fenix 6 Pro Solar is up to 16 days.

Garmin smart watches have learned to charge from the sun

The new feature can provide almost unlimited service life for the Instinct Solar battery when used in battery saving mode and more than two months when used in expedition mode. When used indoors, the working life can reach 24 days, and with sufficient solar exposure can last up to 50 days. Finally, the Tactix Delta - Solar Edition can provide up to 24 days of operation in Power Manager mode with sufficient exposure to sunlight.

According to the developer, all new models also better track mountain biking, surfing and climbing indoors. All watches offer step-by-step navigation, topographic and ski maps, and the Garmin Fenix 6X Pro Solar also has a ClimbPro climbing planner, altimeter, barometer, modules [GPS'GPS]], GLONASS and Galileo, which are used to assess the location. 2019: Instinct Tactical Edition Announcement

In August 2019, Garmin launched the Instinct Tactical Edition smart watches on the market. The novelty was created in accordance with US military standards 810G for thermal resistance, impact properties and waterproof. The device withstands diving to a water depth of up to 100 meters.

The smartwatch is equipped with a chemically reinforced display with support for night vision devices. Another feature was Stealth mode, which prevents the storage and transmission of location data, and also disables transmission over wireless networks.

Garmin introduced smart watches for military Instinct Tactical Edition

There is support for GPS, GLONASS and Galileo navigation systems. The manufacturer claims that navigation is improved compared to other Instinct models and a dual-frequency GPS receiver is used with an accuracy of positioning coordinates up to 30 cm.

The gadget allows you to track the heart rate, the number of steps taken and the volume of calories burned. There are modes adapted for cycling, swimming, running and other training. Of particular note is the Jumpmaster mode for various types of skydiving.

The clock connects to the smartphone and notifies you of the incoming call and message. The technical equipment of the device also included an accelerometer, a three-axis compass, a barometric altimeter, a thermometer, a pulsometer and Bluetooth and ANT + communication systems.

The battery should be enough for 14 days in normal operation and for 40 days in economical (Garmin UltraTrac function).

The Garmin Instinct Tactical model  is presented in two colors (Black and Coyote Tan) and several variants that differ in functions. The cost of the product starts at $350.

In addition to the cable for charging and transmitting data and documentation, the watch includes a spare silicone strap.^[2]
