2022: Agreement on the development of the region's telecom infrastructure

MegaFon and the Government of the Novosibirsk Region agreed on the development of the region's telecom infrastructure. On June 16, 2022, MegaFon announced the provision of LTE coverage at the international terminal of Tolmachevo Airport, as well as modernizing the network in more than 70 settlements of the region, providing local residents with the latest communication standards.

The agreement was signed by MegaFon CEO Khachatur Pombukhchan and Novosibirsk Region Governor Andrey Travnikov. Cooperation will be aimed at modernizing and expanding communication networks, introducing innovative digital solutions for the socio-economic development of the region.

The key area of cooperation will be the development of digital infrastructure and the expansion of the LTE coverage area in the Novosibirsk region. By the end of 2022, MegaFon will build additional base stations and launch high-speed Internet in 19 small and remote villages in the region, where about 20 thousand people live.

The Novosibirsk region has always been one of the key regions for MegaFon. It was here in 2012 that we first launched a 4G network in Russia, and 10 years later in Novosibirsk, for the first time outside the Urals, we tested 5G technology and prepared the network for the latest standard. I am confident that effective cooperation with the regional government will help us implement new projects that increase the availability of telecom services for residents of the region, as well as open up great opportunities for the digitalization of business and state-owned enterprises, "said Khachatur Pombukhchan, CEO of MegaFon.

As part of the agreement, MegaFon will create communication infrastructure for the ice arena under construction on the left bank of the Ob. High-capacity LTE base stations will provide coverage in the sports complex and in the surrounding area. Inside the facility, MegaFon will install 300 indoor antennas: not only in the arena, but also in service and training facilities. The installed equipment will be enough to simultaneously provide high-speed Internet and the latest voice technologies with more than 10 thousand viewers. MegaFon will act at the facility as an "anchor" operator and implements a special technical solution that will allow other telecom companies to connect their equipment to the system.

The action plan for digitalization of the Novosibirsk region includes the construction of communication infrastructure at another large sports facility - the Lokomotiv-Arena volleyball center, which seats 5 thousand spectators.

2019

The government of the Novosibirsk region and the operator of digital opportunities MegaFon signed an agreement in September on cooperation in creating a digital environment in the region, under which the company invests more than 4.5 billion rubles.

The agreement was signed by the Governor of the Novosibirsk Region Andrei Travnikov and the Director of Regional Development of MegaFon Shishkovsky Andrey. MegaFon's total investment will be RUB 4.5 billion from 2019 to 2021. The parties agreed on cooperation in the development of telecom infrastructure and the introduction of digital projects in the Novosibirsk region, which solve important socio-economic problems of the region and lay the foundation for its further development within the framework of the state program for digitalization.

One of MegaFon's landmark projects in Novosibirsk will be the expansion of the fundamentally new communication standard NB-IoT (Narrow Band Internet-of-Things), which opens up new opportunities for smart city systems, industry, housing and communal services, power and other sectors of the economy, where you need constant control over the operation of automated sensors, heat meters, integrated IT systems.

In addition, capital expenditures will be aimed at expanding the coverage area of existing 2G, 3G and LTE networks in the Novosibirsk region, including remote settlements, as well as the launch of a modular data center (DPC) with a capacity of 5 MW with the possibility of further scaling up to 20 MW.

"Novosibirsk is a significant city for MegaFon, because it was here that in 2012 we launched the first 4G network in Russia. Since then, the penetration of communication services and telematics in industry, logistics, trade, education has only increased - today more than 98% of companies use certain communication solutions in their work. With a new agreement with the Novosibirsk Region, we are opening, in fact, a large-scale project to create a next-level digital environment, the basis of which will be an innovative Internet of Things network for smart cities and a scalable data center that will take over the processing of a huge array of data, "said Andrey Shishkovsky, MegaFon Regional Development Director.

"We have signed an agreement with MegaFon with absolutely specific investment plans and investment amount. This agreement will be aimed at expanding MegaFon's capacity in the Novosibirsk region. An important part of this agreement is the development of coverage of the territory of the NSO with communication services. The register of specific settlements is also attached to the agreement - today there are about 40 of them by the end of 2019 - where cellular equipment should be updated and installed, "commented the Governor of the Novosibirsk Region Andrei Travnikov.
