2020: Announcement

To the middle of January, 2020 Mozilla provided the voice assistant for the browser Firefox. The company released addition which allows the user to browse web pages using voice commands. The program under the name Firefox Voice allows to recognize the natural speech and can carry out a set of tasks, developers claim.

For example, after installation the user can ask Firefox Voice to open different websites, to go to other tab, to make the screenshot of the current web page and many other things. It is possible to call the voice assistant having clicked superstructures or the set keyboard shortcut. Firefox Voice understands a natural language, so, it is optional to user to adhere to certain commands. For example, it is possible to ask "Who created Breaking Bad", and the assistant will provide a small fragment from "Wikipedia" with names of screenwriters.

Firefox Voice can also perform search in compatible web pages by manipulation of the URL addresses. Besides, it can execute a broad spectrum of tasks within the browser, for example, to read the page aloud, to disconnect a sound on a tab or to provide the translation of the text. Firefox Voice is also compatible to multimedia controls so it is possible to start a superstructure and to configure reproduction of any multimedia file, without resorting to the keyboard.

Mozilla reported that Firefox Voice uses service Google Cloud Speech, so, all voice commands are transferred for processing to Google. However Mozilla assures that Google does not store the records received from Firefox Voice, and users will be able independently to select, voice commands will or not be told to Mozilla for researches and further development of service.

By the beginning of 2020 the Firefox Voice application is available in the beta, but anyone after registration in the program of testing can use it.^[1]
