2020: Inclusion by the government of Japan in the program of subsidizing of educational services EdTech

On June 4, 2020 TAdviser knew that the Ministry of Economics, trade and the industry of Japan included ROBBO Japan – division of the Russian producer of educational robotics "ROBBO" – in the state program of subsidizing of educational services of "EdTech". The company will be able to receive financing on opening of classes of robotics and programming at the Japanese comprehensive schools.

Since 2020 in Japan the concept of STEM education is implemented (Science/Technology/Engineering/Mathematics). She assumes training in the exact sciences, technology, engineering. Programming and robotics became obligatory objects at schools of Japan. Government subsidies will cover 70% of expenses on the organization of an engineering class, 30% are invested by the company – the participant of the program. In 2020 ROBBO Japan is going to equip the first 200 schools.

The engineering class from "ROBBO" includes a set of the equipment and the software for training in robotics, programming, 3D - to modeling and 3D - to printing, circuit engineering, technologies of Internet of Things and the smart home. Besides, methodologists of the company will provide training of teachers, will provide methodical materials and lesson plans.

We start tender at which we will select the first 200 schools for opening of "ROBBO of Classes" in 2020. Advantage of our solution is complex approach: we provide not only the equipment and software, but also educational techniques by which more than 50 thousand children in 18 countries of the world study. We have deeply worked programs which include lesson plans for each discipline and each age group. Besides, we train teachers and we give them methodical support, told Yasuo Ninomiya, the director of business development of ROBBO Japan.

The educational market of Japan is very perspective for us. In the country about 20 thousand organizations of elementary school where children from 6 to 12 years study work. So far the few from them have the necessary equipment, programs and educational techniques allowing to organize lessons of engineering disciplines. Our solution "ROBBO Class" is just directed to implementation of the concept of STEM education by which schools of Japan are guided, noted Pavel Frolov, the founder of "ROBBO".

The resident Skolkovo ROBBO company continues development in the Japanese market, proving that the Russian educational robotics takes the leading positions on the world scene. In Japan – in the homeland of robots – school students will learn to invent, using the Russian technologies and educational techniques. Such public-private partnership – a good example of mutually beneficial cooperation when the government solves social problems, attracting competences and resources of business, noted Pavel Krivozubov, the head "Robotics and Artificial Intelligence" of a cluster of information technologies of Skolkovo Foundation.

The complete solution "ROBBO Class" was tested at the Japanese schools in the middle of 2019 after the victory of the company in the tender Fukuoka Startup Day. Having received the positive decision according to the results of pilot projects, the company made the decision on an entry into the Japanese market.

In April, 2020 the first circles of robotics ROBBOClub.Ru in Tokyo and Fukuoka opened. Occupations started in an online format because of the restrictions connected with coronavirus epidemic.

2019: Entry into the market of Japan with contracts for 500 thousand euros

In October, 2019 Robbo reported that it will register division of Robbo Japan in Japan. By the time of the message about it the company signed provisional agreements about deliveries of products to the Japanese companies in 2020 for the amount more than 500 thousand euros. In addition, it signed the agreement with the first distributor of Robbo in Japan.

As told the correspondent of TAdviser in Robbo, the company received the invitation from the government of Japan to create Robbo Japan joint venture in the territory of the country. It occurred after she won tender of technology projects of the government of Japan of Fukuoka Startup (May, 2019), and product samples of the company were successfully tested at the Japanese schools.

As of October there are consultations with the Japanese innovation agencies and investment funds about structure of property of joint venture and the choice of top managers from the Japanese and Russian side. Start of registration procedure of Robbo Japan is planned for November 1. After that within a month full opening of the enterprise will take place.

However some details about it are already known. So, the staff of the enterprise will total as much as possible 10 people, and promotion of products of Robbo in the Japanese market, research and development in the field of engineering education and robotics and also technical, methodical and business support of the Japanese schools and network "Robbo of Clubs" will be activities.

In October a number of delivery agreements of products of Robbo to the Japanese companies was concluded. They provide sales of the complete solution for opening of the innovation engineering classes at Robbo Class schools and providing a franchize of the robotic circles Robbo Club. Besides, Robbo signed the first contract with the Japanese company for distribution of solutions of Robbo in Japan.

Concerning volumes of products of Robbo which will be purchased by the Japanese companies the founder of the company Pavel Frolov told the following:

From distributors today the company receives preliminary applications for 35 solutions Robbo Class and 3 franchizes Robbo Club. From final customers preliminary applications for 103 solutions Robbo Class and 4 franchizes Robbo Club arrived.

Saying about whether the solution Robbo Class will be appropriately adapted for the Japanese companies, Frolov noticed that within it the possibility of training on Japanese and English is already implemented. For the rest the solution has universal characteristics for all countries and does not require special adaptation.

He also explained that Robbo Club represents a franchize of circles of robotics and free programming where children pass all way from creation of an image of the robot on the screen before programming and the embodiment of own robots in reality by means of 3D - modeling and 3D - printings. In circles children from 5 to 15 years study. In learning process developments of Robbo company (the robotic designer, the 3D-printer) and own technique of training are used, Pavel Frolov told.

In spite of the fact that in Japan there are analogs of our solutions, we saw real interest from the Japanese colleagues. They recognized quality of our products, it was pleasant to them that there is an opportunity to train at Japanese. This year, according to representatives of the local companies, in Japan education reform which assumes introduction of lessons of programming at elementary school is planned. In this aspect what we offer is interesting to them, - explained the interest of the Japanese companies in Robbo products, but not other producers of robotics, Pavel Frolov.

He also paid attention that the Japanese specialists noted depth of the training program Robbo. Frolov claims that representatives of the Japanese company who have experience of circle business, complained of the primitive program which does not assume development while at Robbo 240 lessons which allow to submerge children in engineering bases deeply are developed.
