1971: Start burning at Hell's Gate
The Hell Gate is a hole 60 meters in diameter that is located in Turkmenistan. In 1971, an incident occurred during drilling, due to which a pit filled with gas was formed. Scientists have decided that the best way to solve the problem would be to set fire to this gas. The hole is still engulfed in flames, and its glow can be seen in kilometers. It is not known when the fire will go out, and whether it will go out at all.
