2020: Start of the online map with age almost all buildings in Moscow

At the beginning of September, 2020 the online map of almost all buildings in Moscow was started with age. The basis of the project was formed by open data of Rosreestr for 2016 (in them "objects up to jags of entrances and cambers of an excessive decor are frighteningly in details drawn", explained authors of the project) and also data from the non-commercial cartographic OpenStreetMap project.

Creation of the interactive map of How-old-is-this.house allowing to learn age of the house in Moscow is dated for a City Day and organized by two cartographers — Milana Glebova and Nikita Slavin who already made earlier the similar card for St. Petersburg.

As marked out Milan Glebov, the idea of visualization of age of buildings of Moscow is not new. The similar thing was made a few years ago by Merkator, and in 2020 — Arrow. But both of these stories are devoted to a subject of housing construction, respectively show only apartment houses, and creators of the new project decided to cover the broad picture, she explained.

According to Glebova, exact names and photos of buildings were taken from open data of the Ministry of Culture. Also with relevant images helped Vikimapiya. As a result the layer from 250 thousand polygons turned out. Data were banished through special cartographic programs.

In May, 2020 Nikita Slavin started the interactive map of St. Petersburg. On it over 55 thousand buildings with indication of their age are mentioned. Besides, special cards with information on the house were developed for each building. There it is possible to learn about a year of construction of the building who is an architect and also what architectural style was applied.[1]
