2024: Launch of the first stage of the data center
The state corporation Rosatom in Innopolis put into operation the first stage of the largest data processing center (DPC) in the Volga Federal District. The grand opening took place on June 3, 2024 with the participation of the company's management and the Republic of Tatarstan.
According to representatives of Rosatom, the Innopolis data center will become an important element of infrastructure that contributes to the development of information technologies and the digital economy in the region. The new data center will provide data storage and processing services for various industries, including the public sector, business and scientific institutions.
General Director of Rosatom State Corporation Alexei Likhachev noted that the creation of its own digital solutions and the construction of such large IT infrastructure facilities as data centers allows the state corporation to solve important state and industry problems, and also strengthens Rosatom's position as a global technology leader.
During the design and construction of the data center, special attention was paid to "green technologies": cooling of server rooms in the cold season is carried out by using cool ambient air, solar panels are used to illuminate office premises, and charging stations are provided for electric vehicles, "said Alexey Likhachev. |
According to the state corporation, technological solutions for the Innopolis data center are developed taking into account the import substitution strategy and comply with international reliability standards. The main equipment was designed and manufactured in Russia, which ensures efficient storage of information. The first stage is designed for 1000 stand-ups, and the total area of the data center will exceed 23 thousand square meters.
Likhachev also noted that the launch of the Innopolis data center will create new jobs, attract investment in the region and stimulate the development of the IT industry, which will increase the competitiveness of local enterprises. The project is being implemented by a subsidiary of Rosatom - JSC Atomdata-Innopolis[1]
2020: The beginning of the creation of the data center
On September 10, 2020, on the territory of the Innopolis special economic zone, Rosatom launched a project to build a data center, which could become the largest data center of the Volga Federal District. President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and General Director of Rosatom Alexei Likhachev[2] took part in the videoconference ceremony of the construction [3]
As reported on the official portal of the government of the republic, the project in Innopolis is being implemented by the Rosenergoatom concern, a subsidiary of Rosatom, within the framework of a memorandum of cooperation with the government of Tatarstan and a program for the development of a georegulated and disaster-tolerant data center network.
According to the plans, the data center will be able to accommodate up to 500-1000 IT equipment racks in the first stage with the possibility of subsequent expansion to 2 thousand racks. The capacity allocated to the facility is 16 MW.
The cost of investments in the construction and creation of the engineering infrastructure of the first stage of the data center will be about 3 billion rubles, and several billion rubles will be invested in server equipment and the deployment of Rosatom's virtual environment and commercial cloud.
Construction will begin in the 2nd quarter of 2021 after the completion of a complex of design and survey work. The commissioning of the first stage of the Innopolis data center is scheduled for the second half of 2022.
The data center in Innopolis is the second commercial data center of Rosatom. In 2019, the state corporation launched the Kalininsky data center in Udomlya (Tver Region) with a capacity of 48 MW, which is one of the largest data centers in Russia and Europe, into commercial operation .
Tatarstan is geographically very well located. We have a data center near the Kalinin nuclear power plant, we plan to build several facilities in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The Republic of Tatarstan is an object of digital culture, so we will also be present in the republic, - explained earlier Sergey Nemchenkov[4], director of the department for management and business development of the data center of the Rosenergoatom concern, [5] |
And Deputy General Director - Director for Economics and Finance of Rosenergoatom Sergey Migalin at the opening ceremony said that the facility in Innopolis will become the prototype of foreign data centers of Rosatom. After the project is tested in Tatarstan, it is planned to replicate it in Turkey, Uzbekistan and a number of other countries at the construction sites of nuclear power plants, explained Migalin[6] the[7].
The project will be implemented by Atomdata-Innopolis. Her application for the status of a resident of Innopolis was approved by the Supervisory Board of the Special Economic Zone on August 24, 2020, according to the portal of the Tatarstan government. The company, apparently, is completely new: there are no data on it in the Unified State Register of Legal Entities as of early September.
The largest data center of Tatarstan at the time of the start of the design of the Rosatom facility in the republic is the data center of the IT Park technopark in Kazan. It covers an area of 1000 square meters. m. and has a reserve platform in Naberezhnye Chelny. On the basis of this data center, equipment placement, rental of virtual servers, communication nodes and web hosting are offered.
According to the database of legal entities Kontur.Fokus, "among the clients using the virtual infrastructure of the IT Park is the Center for Digital Transformation of the Republic of Tatarstan, which uses computing resources for the state needs of the region.
