2020: In France the auction on a 5G frequency was ended

At the beginning of October, 2020 in France the auction for distribution of frequencies for development of a 5G networks between local telecommunication companies was ended. According to the results of an auction, France received about 2.8 billion euros revenue in the budget.

Four French mobile operators Orange, Iliad, SFR (Altice Europe belongs) and also Bouygues Telecom distributed among themselves 11 blocks with a frequency of 10 MHz. The Orange operator took four blocks, SFR - three, and Bouygues Telecom and Iliad companies were redeemed on two blocks.

According to the results of 17 rounds of an auction the final cost of one block reached 126 million euros. The auction lasted for three days. At the previous auction the block with a frequency of 50 MHz was sold to each of four operators. The cost of each of blocks was about 350 million euros. In the previous time the cost of the transaction reached 1.4 billion euros. So, the total amount of receipts of treasury of France was about 2.8 billion euros. It for 630 million euros is more than minimum amount determined by the government of the country. Initially France was going to hold auctions on frequencies for a 5G networks in June, 2020. However because of COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic the government had to postpone an auction to September, 2020.

Within the interview with France Info Sebastian Soriano, the president of the Agency on management of electronic communications thanks to whom the auction was organized, told that restrictions for the amount, collected at an auction, were not, however the authorities hoped that operators will show prudence and will save a certain amount of means for further development of technologies.

Soriano told that the 5G will be opened by the best opportunities for people and upgrade many industries, at the same time having reduced concerns concerning potential adverse effects for health.^[1][2]
