2020: Implementation of a thermovision complex for remote temperature measurement of a body

On November 9, 2020 it became known that since the beginning of 2020-2021 academic years a system based on the equipment of Hikvision and the software of AxxonSoft for remote temperature measurement of a body is set at 29 schools of Volgograd and the Volgograd region. The technology allows to avoid queues on inputs in educational institutions, identifies people with the increased temperature and helps to reduce risk of spread of infections.

Temperature monitoring at schools of the Volgograd region

As it was explained, temperature measurement of a body at an input in educational institution — a measure of prevention koronavirusny and other infections, approved as the resolution of the chief health officer of Russia of 6/30/2020 (No. 16 about the approval of sanitary and epidemiologic rules of the joint venture 3.1/2.4.3598-20). The rule of "inlet filter" for November, 2020 is obligatory for execution by schools in the territory of the whole country.

The widespread method of temperature measurement by the manual contactless thermometer (pyrometer) requires time because of what at an input in educational institutions queues are formed every morning.

For the purpose of prevention of distribution of COVID-19 and other viral infections which are followed by the increased temperature, the operational staff on control and monitoring of a situation with a coronavirus across the Volgograd region set the task to install at schools a system for automatic temperature measurement. Presence of a possibility of measurement at the same time at several people was one of wishes of the customer. Also a system had to have a possibility of further development and scaling.

The basis of the project was formed by the solution with hardware base of Hikvision company and program base from AxxonSoft company. The joint solution provides remote temperature measurement using two-spectral thermal imaging cameras, at the same time there is a possibility of setup of the automatic scenario of response to detection of the person with the increased temperature. JSC Sfera acted as the system integrator of the project.

Thermal complexes for temperature measurement of a body of the person integrate two cameras in one body. One of them, thermovision, works with the infrared range and determines temperature of sources of heat, analyzing a range of their natural radiation. The second — the standard video camera which using intellectual algorithms finds in a frame of people that allows with a necessary accuracy to take body temperature and to avoid the false alarms caused by foreign heated objects. Such devices are recognized safe as they only accept and analyze the electromagnetic radiation of outer objects.

In each of 29 educational institutions the thermal Hikvision DS-2TD2637B-10/P IP cameras with a range of taken temperatures from +30 to +45 °C and with a measuring accuracy of 0.5 °C were installed. Cameras are configured so that a system executed only remote temperature measurement, without collecting and/or comparison of biometric data. Using fiber unit the device finds a human face in a frame, and then the thermovision module takes temperature in control points on a forehead. For each school the dedicated server therefore all systems work independently is used, results of measurements and other data it is not transferred out of limits of educational institution.

The thermovision complex is fixed on a ceiling so that the lens was come into the view by all entrance zone for a scope of 100% of the people entering the building. The camera is capable to take temperature of 30 people in a frame less than in 1 second.

Actually it is the first steps to creation of smart school in the territory of the Volgograd region. Gymnasium No. 16 in Traktorozavodsky district where we could experience technical solution based on software of Axxon Next and the Hikvision thermal imager for temperature measurement without stopping of a flow of pupils became the first pilot section.

Using the software of Axxon Next the threshold of admissible temperature is configured. Results of measurements are brought to the monitor in real time. Normal temperature is displayed in green color, raised — red. At detection of the pupil with the increased temperature the attention of the operator is drawn with a sound signal. In the Event window the frame on which this pupil is recorded that helps the operator to select quickly it in a flow is displaid.

For November, 2020 thermal imagers are used to primary temperature measurement in a flow of people. At identification of the pupil with a symptom of the increased temperature, the class teacher or the manager on duty take away it in a medical office. The medic takes control measurement using the medical equipment and if the symptom is confirmed, information is transferred to parents that they took away the child home and called the doctor.

The system of thermometry based on the thermal cameras Hikvision and software of Axxon Next takes temperature of people in moving crowd. Contactless measurement at distance of several meters excludes risk of infection from physical contact and also exempts personnel of school from need to manually check temperature of each pupil on an input.

In the first months of work a system showed the efficiency — children with suspicion on the increased temperature timely went to physical examination.

Installation of the similar systems is planned at other schools of Volgograd and area. Further they can be used during the periods of seasonal rise in incidence of acute respiratory viral infections and flu.

The morning thermometry at school was made using manual contactless thermometers earlier. Naturally, 2-3 seconds were spent for each temperature measurement. When at school 1400 children study — it is rather labor-consuming: time of check increases and someone from pupils can be late for a lesson. Installation of a thermovision complex facilitates work of school and the organization of all educational process. Now children in accelerated pass in educational classes, without being delayed in the doorway. Thanks to this solution the chaos is not created, and it, naturally, promotes preserving of health of students.
