2020: Upgrade of a command measuring system

The Russian Space Systems holding (RKS, is included into Roskosmos State corporation) announced on November 25, 2020 upgrade of a command measuring system of "Klen-R" which is used for contact with the space transport ships "Union", "Progress" and the Russian segment of the International Space Station (ISS). "Klen-R" with the broadband communication system will allow to pass to high-speed digital video conference with crew and will increase a zone of radio visibility of the Russian segment of the ISS four times.

For communication with the ISS the land Orion complexes which acceptance region is limited to the territory of Russia are used, and receptive period of the television picture in an analog format makes no more than 20 minutes on one round. For transition to exchange of digital information specialists of RKS retrofitted "Klen-R" the modem of the broadband communication system. A modifed system for November, 2020 undergoes experimental working off in PJSC RSC Energia.

Use of the broadband communication system will provide communication with the ISS via domestic relay station satellites of the Beam system, including out of a visibility range from the Russian territory. Thanks to this completion it will be possible to contact crew during more than 80% of daily time due to increase in a zone of radio visibility.

Thanks to the broadband communication system and application of ground stations of "Klen-R" Russia will be able to pass to the domestic system of relaying Beam that will provide it technology independence of the used earlier American satellite system of relaying of TDRSS. Due to upgrade of Klen-R stations and increase in a zone of radio visibility specialists will obtain more telemetric information, at the same time time for decision making will increase.

The command measuring system of "Klen-R" is developed by RKS in 2010. For November, 2020 ground stations of "Klen-R" act in Moscow, Zheleznogorsk and on the Vostochny spaceport. A system is intended for management and information exchange with the spacecrafts of scientific and social and economic appointment piloted by space complexes, space stations, upper stages via relay station satellites of a multifunction space system of relaying Beam.
