2021: Stryker purchased OrthoSensor

At the beginning of January, 2021 the Stryker company announced purchase of OrthoSensor company and its technology of intraoperative Verasense sensors which, as expected, can improve the capacity of surgical Mako robots. Financial terms of transaction are not disclosed.

Representatives of Stryker in the press release noted that the Verasense system since 2011 proved as the unique solution for balancing of a knee in the prosthetic Triathlon system of production Stryker. Developers consider that the touch technology will contribute to the further development of the systems of surgical robotics of Mako, improving workflow at the expense of a uniform complete feedback mechanism.

Besides, wearable devices and mobile application for remote monitoring of patients of MotionSense of production OrthoSensor in combination with a cloud platform of data of OrthloLogIQ can expand possibilities of Stryker on data analysis.

Smart devices and implants will play the increasing role in orthopedics, and we are glad that OrthoSensor will join Stryker as we continue to enter new developments and to advance intellectual touch technologies, including intraoperative sensors, wearable devices and smart implants, - the president of the Stryker group on orthopedics and surgery of a backbone Spencer Stiles told.

He also noted that measurement of key indicators in real time will promote the fastest healing, so, to improvement of results of treatment and satisfaction of patients.

According to analysts of Truist, it is not clear so far how this transaction will affect strategic partnership of OrthoSensor with competitors of Stryker - Smith&Nephew and Zimmer Biomet. Analysts also noted the fact that the bargain was concluded shortly after Zimmer Biomet announced partnership with Canary Medical which is going to start a line of intellectual implants at the end of 2021.[1]
