HyperBranch Medical Technology — developer of the patented medical devices on the basis of polymers and hydrogels for use in surgery and traumatology. Among other things, the company released Adherus AutoSpray – one of the certified neurosurgical sealants. The company was founded in 2003 and located in Durham, the State of North Carolina. HyperBranch distributes products through network of suppliers worldwide.

History

2018: Stryker purchased HyperBranch Medical Technology for $220 million

On October 1, 2018 the Stryker Corporation company which is among the largest producers of the medical equipment announced acquisition of HyperBranch Medical Technology for $220 million.

In transactions neurosurgical Adherus Autospray sealant is of the main interest to Stryker. It represents a combination of solutions of air of polyethyleneglycol and a polietilenimin for sealing of seams at neurosurgical transactions with the dosing device. Gel is applied on a seam of a firm brain cover in order to avoid a likvorotecheniye. It forms a thin elastic cover which gradually, within 90 days, is dissolved, absorbed and displaid with urine. The received cover is impenetrable for cerebrospinal fluid, and there is enough duration of its effect for full healing.

Neurosurgical Adherus AutoSpray sealant from HyperBranch company

It is one of two such sealants permitted to sale in the market of the USA. The second, DuraSeal, is made by Covidien company and was registered in 2011. In January, 2014 Covidien assigned the rights to DuraSeal of Integra LifeSciences company for $235 million then the new owner of DuraSeal submitted at least two claims for patent infringement against HyperBranch according to federal laws – in 2015 and 2017.

Stryker notes that the transaction will hardly affect the net profit of the company in 2018, however will expand its portfolio of neurosurgical tools and as it is supposed, will begin to bring income in 2019.^[1]
