The purpose of the deposit is to take additional measures to ensure the safety of the information contained in the registries, to increase the stability of the registration system and to further protect the rights of domain name administrators in case of disruption of the systems of the main registry operator. Unlike shared top-level domains (gTLD2), depositing registry data is not mandatory for national top-level domain (ccTLD3) registrars.

Depositing the data of the registers of national domains.RU and.RF will increase the reliability of storing the information contained in the registers of national domains, and will provide additional guarantees for their stable operation. The decision to use this tool was made by the Coordination Center back in 2019, and we, together with our partners - MSK-IX and TEC - were conducting systematic work in this direction. Depositing and storing national domain registry data is one of the most important aspects of supporting the reliable operation of the Internet. Our priority is to increase the stability and security of the functioning of the Russian segment of the Internet. The introduction of mechanisms to ensure the protection and stability of.RU and.RF domains included in the national domain zone is another step towards achieving this goal. As the operator of the.RU and.RF domain registers, TTC, by agreement with the Coordination Center, implements technical functions for uploading information from the registers and their safe transfer to MSK-IX. At the same time, a similar functionality is also being implemented for registrars of common top-level domains to which the TTC provides registry maintenance services, "said Alexey Rogdev, General Director of TTC LLC.

The provision of services for depositing registers of Russian national domains.RU and.RF in pilot operation mode began in October 2020. The project to introduce additional organizational and technical measures aimed at ensuring the continuity of the addressing system was initiated in 2019 on behalf of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation. It also provides additional protection for the rights of administrators and users of domain names through the use of mechanisms on the Russian platform that provide additional guarantees for the safety of domain name information and the smooth functioning of the addressing system as a whole.
