The number of blocked domains in the.rf zone that distributed malicious software in June 2023 increased 11.7 times compared to the previous month - to 2642 domains from 226. And this is significantly higher than in May 2022, when 9 domains that spread the virus were blocked. This was announced on July 17, 2023 at the Coordination Center for Domains. RU/.RF.

According to Pankov, the speed of blocking malicious domains in Russia remains one of the fastest in the world and is about 25 hours from filing a complaint or detecting malicious activity to stopping domain delegation.

According to Kommersant, information security experts confirm the activation in the Russian Federation of "pro-state cyber espionage" groups associated with the PRC, calling them long-standing participants in hacker attacks in the country. Emails of government agencies in the Russian Federation transferred to the national domain zone

According to the head of the ANO "Information Culture" Ivan Begtin, the new requirements may be related to the problems of state departments with the payment of sites in foreign domain zones, which began in the spring of 2022. According to the expert, such government services in foreign domain zones, as well as government agencies that use a non-cyclical name in the postal address, "a fairly large number," for example, EMIAS, which is located at emias.info (a common top-level domain that does not belong to the national Russian domain zone). He believes that such a transition, if the bill is passed, may take only about a month.

Head of the Coordination Center for.RU and.RF Domains. Andrei Vorobyov, in a conversation with RBC, said that the ground for the appearance of this bill had been preparing for a long time, and in 2022 this approach became especially relevant due to the aggravated international situation and attempts by some countries and organizations to build barriers in a single Internet space.

The Coordination Center of Domains.RU/.RF investigated the readiness of Runet to work with Cyrillic e-mail addresses

The study was conducted in conjunction with the Universal Acceptance Authority Group (UASG) and Project Поддерживаю.РФ as part of an international project to analyse the level of universal acceptance, covering 1,000 of the most popular websites in 20 countries around the world.

Universal Acceptance - the state when all Internet applications, services and systems correctly and uniformly accept, check, store, process and display all correct domain names and email addresses, including those that use the characters of the local alphabet. The importance of this process has grown significantly in recent years with the development of domain zones in national languages (IDN) and the expansion of the use of non-Latin postal addresses (EAI).

As part of the study, seven types of email addresses that included Cyrillic characters were tested for adoption on each website through a registration (subscription) form or contact forms, if any.

To form a sample of tested Russian websites, the Yandex.Radar rating was used, but some of the popular resources, such as Yandex, Rambler, Mail.ru, individual social networks and video hosting, as well as services using their own authentication system, were excluded, since the mandatory requirement for their clients is the use of e-mail registered on the same portals.

According to the results of the study, 19% of Runet sites were able to accept e-mail addresses made up entirely of symbols of the national alphabet, which is the second result in the world. The first place belongs to Germany, where web projects that support the local alphabet turned out to be 28%. China took only fourth place in this ranking.

The greatest readiness to work with Cyrillic addresses was shown by Russian resources from the category of e-commerce (30%), online education (25%) and the banking sector (20%). The least prepared were media sites (only 11%). At the same time, the highest level of universal adoption in the world is demonstrated by bank sites, and the smallest - by online stores.

For example, in the e-commerce sector, the non-Latin addresses of the Ozone online store are correctly accepted, with some errors - Avito, Wildberries and several other projects. Among the media, no one has complete adoption of such e-mails, but RBC, Kommersant and Rossiyskaya Gazeta allow working with some types of Cyrillic spelling. In the banking industry, the adoption of Cyrillic mail is implemented on the websites of the Mir and Tinkoff Bank payment system, partially at Sberbank and Home Credit Bank. They do not work with such e-mail online resources of Alfa-Bank, VTB, Gazprombank, Otkritie Bank and Raiffeisen Bank. Of the state services, only the Public services portal can boast of supporting the Russian language in e-mail addresses. The websites of the Federal State Automated System "Justice" or the official resource of the mayor of Moscow do not work with them.

Поддерживаю.РФ - Cyrillic Domain Support Project

The Coordination Center for Domains.RU/.RF launched a program for supporting Cyrillic domains in May 2020. The project, called Поддерживаю.РФ, is aimed at solving one of the most important problems in working with non-Latin and, in particular, Cyrillic domain names - providing them with transparent support in software.

Despite the fact that non-Latin domain names (IDNs) have existed for more than 10 years, a significant part of the software uses domain conversion to ASCII through Punycode conversion and displays them in such a way that it scares unprepared users and worsens user experience. Internationalized mail addresses (EAIs), which are still used extremely rarely, are a separate problem, since refusing to support them at any of the intermediate mail nodes leads to a non-delivery of the message.

Поддерживаю.РФ is designed to help software developers implement full support for IDN domain names and EAI mail addresses, primarily Cyrillic, in their products, and for system administrators to correctly select and configure software that has this ability. The project website contains Russian-language documentation on working with internationalized domain names and mail addresses, including standards and best practices for their processing in software, and also constantly updates the catalog of software products indicating the current situation with their support for IDN and EAI protocols.

Now the domain zone is approaching 800,000 domain names, most of which (67.23% of all active domains) are one year old. Domains registered in the first year of the zone's existence account for only 1.17% of the market. According to the forecast of the general director of the REG.RU registrar Alexei Korolyuk, the domain. RF can step over the important mark of one million registrations by its next birthday.

Hundreds of domain names are registered daily in the Cyrillic domain zone. RF. According to statistics from the Coordination Center, in April, REG.RU became the most popular registrar in the.RF domain zone among users, whose share was 32.42% of the total number of new domains over the past month. RF Domain Zone Logo
The logo "points of the Russian Federation" was developed in early 2012. Today this designation is widely used on the Internet, in the media, in outdoor advertising. It is a key element of the Coordination Center's campaign to popularize the top-level national Cyrillic domain of the Russian Federation among Russian citizens.

The registrar REG.RU conducted a survey among his clients in the summer of 2011 to find out why they register Cyrillic domains, what they see the advantages of the new zone, what forecasts give for the further development of the domain.

Survey participants told for what purpose they register.RF domains. 42% purchased domains. RF to create personal sites, 35% - to solve the business problems of their company (from the bottom 3% - to protect the domain from seizure by competitors/cybersquatters), 8% plan to resell purchased domains, 4% registered domains as a gift, 2% felt the fashion trend and acquired a domain in the new zone. This ratio coincides with statistics: 63% of the total number of registered domains in the zone. RF belong to individuals, 27% - to legal entities.

The absolute majority (73%) of respondents recognized the advantages of the.RF domain over other national zones, among the main advantages were the simplicity of typing a site (28%), memorability (16%), the ability to use the Russian language, and not the Latin alphabet (13%), new opportunities for promoting business on the Internet (11%).

As for the selection of a domain name, the most popular among the respondents were domains that fully coincide with the name of the company/brand, names of goods and services, names, surnames, nicknames, funny, memorable words. About 6% came up with a non-existent word.

One of the most discussed topics in recent days has become the stop list of the.RF domain, which contains obscene expressions, swear words, jargon, prohibited for use when creating a site name in the Cyrillic zone. 54% of respondents agree that the registration of such words should be prohibited, 24% speak out against restrictions, for 20% it does not matter much.

It is noteworthy that 12% of respondents registered domain names for the future and now they do not plan to use them. This trend can be traced in general statistics: delegated, that is, ready for full-fledged work, today 37% of the total number of registered domains. If you look at the oldest domains of the Russian Federation registered a year ago, in the first days of priority registration, you can see that out of 1,554 registered domains, 863 are delegated - just over half.

Of course, companies, the state, the media, and public organizations are primarily invested in the development of their presence in the Cyrillic zone. But Internet users have already managed to assess the potential of the.RF domain: starting from the first days of open registration, a variety of personal mini-pages with a Cyrillic (sometimes rather funny) address actively appear, on which photos, forums, etc. are posted using standard social media tools.

What forecasts for the development of the zone. RF give users? 40% believe that the.RF domain will develop and exist in parallel with.RU, 30% expect that the.RF domain will become the main Runet domain, and 30% are not sure that it will be actively used and will be able to compare in popularity with.ru.

In honor of the first birthday, the REG.RU registrar presented the logo of the.RF domain zone for free use by Russian Internet users in everyday communication. Also launched a site for public congratulations of the Cyrillic domain - www.с-днем-рождения.рф.

The 15th place in the number of domain names among European national domains also speaks for itself - in early April. The Russian Federation overtook the traditional country domain of the Czech Republic.CZ. As of May 2011, 826,610 domain names were registered in the.RF domain, and more than 58% were delegated. The combination. RF is increasingly found on advertising posters, every day new sites are opened in the zone. RF.
