2015
Released by SolidWorks Composer
On May 29, 2015, SolidWorks announced the launch of the SolidWorks Composer system, which is part of the SolidWorks software complex. The product provides full coverage of enterprise tasks throughout the entire product lifecycle[1].
Instructions for working with SolidWorks Composer, 2013
When creating SolidWorks Composer, developers tried to make 3D technologies more accessible to the consumer market, new multimedia technologies and non-engineering specialists, primarily due to the possibility of reusing existing CAD geometry.
SolidWorks Composer helps you create a wide range of online documentation and electronic content:
- bitmap images
- vector images for marketing materials and printed repair and maintenance instructions
- electronic catalogs of interactive training programs for technical personnel and manuals on the product in the assembly plant, organized on the basis of the "clean" workshop.
Using SolidWorks Composer simplifies the process of creating technical documentation - the basis is the achievements of the design department. Based on them, various raster and vector graphics can be created with full support for Bezier curves, which does not lose its quality when scaling.
You can create intelligent, local, and projection views for models, sections with detail views that can reflect all the necessary dimensions, callouts, and notes, and schedule tables.
For models, events, various visual effects and complex animation are implemented, which includes assembly/disassembly processes, animation of kinematic links, creation of a "walk," the ability to add technological tooling and working tools to the model file, which can be created separately and used repeatedly in different projects. All this reduces the volume of text comments many times, which, in turn, reduces the risk of incorrect interpretation of the operation and simplifies the procedure for localizing documentation when translating it into foreign languages.
Process Map with Embedded Video (SWR-Technologiya), 2015
For graphic and text objects, you can create styles that, in turn, help create a uniform appearance of all documentation. SolidWorks Composer offers a number of pre-configured design styles that meet the requirements of domestic (P50.1.029-2001, P50/1.030-2001) and international (WebCGM, S1000D and ATA 2200) standards governing IETP development requirements.
An intuitive Russian-language interface helps you quickly develop the necessary online technical documentation, regardless of your CAD experience. SolidWorks Composer supports direct opening of both SolidWorks and most CAD systems with the ability to obtain metadata of the imported model, files in STEP, IGES and 3DXML formats and does not require an installed CAD system in the workplace.
In addition to the main tools, SolidWorks Composer has a number of additional utilities. With Solidworks Composer Check, a specialist can perform a control assembly of a product even if all of its components are modeled in different CAD systems. At that optimization of process of installation and use of technological tooling is achieved. SolidWorks Composer, in conjunction with Path Planning, calculates the optimal trajectory of conflict-free movement of product components with guaranteed absence of collisions, animates the process of assembly and maintenance of a complex product, taking into account the work area, necessary tools and equipment, anthropometric characteristics of the operator or assembler.
The workflow when creating technical documentation looks like this:
- the first step is to retrieve the source data from the CAD system.
- data is processed in the next step
- When completed, they are published according to the target audience and the needs of the enterprise.
Workflow Using SolidWorks Composer, 2015
The documentation created using SolidWorks Composer can be updated manually or automatically, which allows you to create technical documentation in parallel with a detailed design study. Automatic updates are performed using the SolidWorks Composer Sync module. If you want to automate this process according to the document lifecycle in SolidWorks Enterprise PDM and other information systems, you can use the SolidWorks Composer Enterprise Sync module, which combines API and task scheduler functions.
Finished documentation can be opened on any computer, without installing additional software (selfextractor packages are used), in addition, it can be embedded in any Microsoft Office document using ActiveX technology or published in PDF documents and HTML pages, using both supplied and unique user templates.
Open and implement the created content using the free SolidWorks Composer Player. SolidWorks Composer Player and SolidWorks Composer Player Pro (if you need more flexibility and customization through advanced functionality and user programming API tools) also provide access to navigation tools and changes in how the product is displayed (changing scene lighting, component transparency, etc.).
When implementing and publishing, it is possible to control access to the functionality of the created documentation, including in time, and protect copyright using a password and the function to protect against unauthorized copying of 3D geometry by reducing the quality of the model display.
