SolidWorks Enterprise PDM

SolidWorks Enterprise PDM is a management system for engineering data.

It is applied in an operation mode with documents, structure of a product and in the mixed mode.

Document storage

Documents of any types are stored in usual to the user of Windows a type — as the files which are spread out according to the folders structured in the way convenient to the user. The SolidWorks Enterprise PDM folders are built in the standard conductor of Windows, and SolidWorks Enterprise PDM adds to them the specific elements of the interface necessary for accomplishment of commands of PDM systems and access to design data and metadata of documents. SolidWorks Enterprise PDM is controlled with the files of any type clear actually to Windows, and provides bidirectional exchange of values of properties of such files. The classification system of files in SolidWorks Enterprise PDM considers file type in terms of Windows and any selected for this property of the file. For example, SolidWorks part model, depending on properties of the user, can be considered as a part of own production, as a standard or purchased product, as the dimensional model or somehow differently. The defined registration form, business process, etc. are compared to each document type.

Viewing the document in SolidWorks Enterprise PDM (2009)

Operates with SolidWorks Enterprise PDM and paper documents. For such documents the registration forms are created, the necessary attributes are appropriated to them, these documents participate in conventional processes of document flow. When translating the document in electronic SolidWorks Enterprise PDM allows to change document type in storage.

SolidWorks Enterprise PDM gives an opportunity of full viewing documents of several hundred types. It is possible not just to see a certain raster picture, kakto illustrating the document, and to browse all document, three-dimensional models to turn or scale on the screen.

As basic purpose of PDM systems — product data management in the fields of mechanical engineering, instrument making, architecture and construction, SolidWorks Enterprise PDM allows to configure standard folder structure for document storage of the project and to save it as a project template. During creation of the new project this template will exclude need of reconstruction of folder structure, setup of rules of placement of documents for them, settings of access rights, etc. Folders, as well as documents, have necessary attributes, the registration forms, rules of access to them.

At the placement of the new document to SolidWorks Enterprise PDM storage can monitor uniqueness of names of files that will prevent the possible conflicts of sharing of several documents and will exclude document retrieval problems. At the placement of the new document to SWEPDM storage can automatically appropriate certain values to any document attributes. In need of management of classification codes of documents are possible the choice of values of the corresponding attributes from lists, their task manually, use of automatic counters that allows to customize the system of codification of documents flexibly.

For documents of any types it is possible to appoint interrelations, creating, for example, structure and structure of future product at design from specifications or defining documentation kits on a product from the documents inherited from "former life" of the enterprise. For files of SolidWorks the so-called problem of circular references is solved — actually, it is a problem for other PDM systems, in SolidWorks and SolidWorks Enterprise PDM the possible indirect circulation of the document to itself through some other documents is the normal working mechanism working without special tricks. Links between documents define a vkhodimost of documents each other, and SolidWorks Enterprise PDM always shows structure of such documents (as a rule, defining structure of assembly) or, on the contrary, the list of vkhodimost of some document, doing it without call of any commands.

In SolidWorks Enterprise PDM the document retrieval built-in system by the most different criteria, and for search accomplishment, as a rule, is not present need obviously to create SQL queries to the database. The user of SolidWorks Enterprise PDM always works with human, and can find the intuitive interface documents by any criteria: to attributes of files, names, the status of the document, its stay in work at this user, to the known text fragment in the document. It is not necessary to study any new interface approaches to search: for example, search in attributes can be conducted, entering required data directly into a document card template. The requests which are often used in work can be saved under a convenient name for repeated application.

Interaction with SolidWorks

Being created especially for SolidWorks, SolidWorks Enterprise PDM provides integration with this system in any its complete set. It is shown in two inseparably linked and closely interacting options: in the form of unique opportunities regarding work with files of SolidWorks in the PDM window (even in the absence of SolidWorks on this computer) and in the form of existence of the interaction module which is built in SolidWorks with storage.

The set of files of SolidWorks corresponding to some project or its part, including all entering models and drawings can be placed in the selected SolidWorks Enterprise PDM folder simple copying through Windows conductor. SolidWorks Enterprise PDM will recognize links between documents, considers all metadata, will pick up to assemblies of the link to library folders and the Toolbox models. Existence of SolidWorks on the computer is optional to accomplishment of these actions.

Directly in the SolidWorks Enterprise PDM window there is an access to all metadata of documents of SolidWorks as to the general data of model, and given to each configuration structures of assemblies and a vkhodimost of parts and nodes are visible, viewing files of SolidWorks, adding of notes in them function of "a red pencil", replacement of their status according to lifecycle is possible. Within the rights of the user of SolidWorks Enterprise PDM it is possible to change metadata manually or automatically by rules of the started business process. All changes made in a document card are transferred to the document at once and are reflected in the main text of the drawing of SolidWorks.

SolidWorks Enterprise PDM works with virtual components of assemblies SolidWorks. Though such components are also not provided by separate files which could be considered usual in a PDM system, SolidWorks Enterprise PDM displays them in specifications and allows to work with cards of such documents.

At any management of the SolidWorks models in the SolidWorks Enterprise PDM window and in the environment of SolidWorks the SolidWorks Enterprise PDM system will correctly build structure of a projectible product that guarantees to all consumers of this information the accuracy and completeness of data. As a result technologists will receive for needs of preparation of production a complete data structure, department of technical documentation — a coherent documentation kit on a product, economic services — exact data on project components for calculation of calculation of a product, etc.

2015: SolidWorks Enterprise PDM is compatible to Crypto Pro

On December 9, 2015 it became known of obtaining the certificate of compatibility of SolidWorks Enterprise PDM and a complex of cryptographic information protection of Crypto Pro^[1].

The SolidWorks Russia company announced end of a complex of actions for joint operations training in a corporate system of management of engineering data of SolidWorks Enterprise PDM with the system of cryptographic information protection (SCIP) of Krypto-PRO. The certification tests which are carried out by the companies of Krypto-PRO and SolidWorks Russia confirmed correctness of work of systems.

CIPF of Krypto-PRO of versions 3.6, 3.9 and 4.0 - the recommended means of cryptographic information protection for the software package SolidWorks. According to the results of works the certificate on compatibility of November 24, 2015 is issued.
