2021: Development of a digital double for the pharmaceutical industry

On May 27, 2021, it became known that Atos and Siemens are working together to improve the productivity of the pharmaceutical industry with a solution based on creating a digital copy of the production process. The digital twin of the production process, developed on the basis of technologies such as the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and advanced analytics, is being tested in the pharmaceutical industry as of May 2021. The solution is designed to increase the efficiency and flexibility of pharmaceutical products.

This decision, based on a pilot study, offers opportunities, such as the sustainable development of the process - reducing the time spent on experiments, as well as the waste left after they are carried out; high quality guarantee and transition to another "quality by design" model, which allows you to get the right product from the first time. The solution also offers the best tools to ensure the quality and reliability of the process.

The manufacture and manufacture of pharmaceutical products are complex and long-term processes. In order to optimize them, Siemens, one of Atos's global pharmaceutical partners, decided to test a solution created and developed as a result of joint investments and fruitful cooperation of the Atos-Siemens global strategic alliance. The digital twin of the production process is a complete virtual copy of a certain stage of production, associated with sensors of the Internet of things installed in a real enterprise.

They generate large volumes of complex data and instantly give a complete idea of all the details of production. By combining virtual and physical components of the process, as well as using predictive models and real-time analytics, Atos and Siemens help the pharmaceutical industry reconsider their views on key elements of the production environment.

We are pleased to introduce digital technology into the heart of the global pharmaceutical industry, helping to solve numerous health problems. Thanks to the digital production twin developed by Atos and Siemens, a full digital copy of pharmaceutical products is created throughout the production cycle, from the development stage to their manufacture, "shared Paul Albada Jelgersma, Senior Vice President, Head of Services for the Internet of Things and Siemens MindSphere Atos at the global level.

Digitalization at each stage of the value chain will help the pharmaceutical industry deliver drugs faster from the laboratory to patients. This was a difficult path, during which Atos and Siemens laid the foundation for future development and production processes based on science, technology and innovation, "added Rebecca Wangenechten, head of the Siemens pharmaceutical industry.

The solution was created thanks to Atos expertise in IT infrastructure, consulting, integration and data analysis, artificial intelligence and the Internet of things, as well as Siemens experience in creating digital enterprises using OT systems for the pharmaceutical industry using Simatic Sipat for real-time quality monitoring and StarCCM+ & HEEDS for process modeling and simulation.

The nature of Atos and Siemens' pre-integrated Digital Production Twin solution provides for its use in manufacturing processes of any scale and complexity. By tuning the process structure in the right way, Atos and Siemens can choose the most effective digital twin for each customer - in the pharmaceutical, chemical, manufacturing and other industries.
