2021: Launch of the online weapons registration system in Ukraine
In June 2021, the Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation and Internal Affairs announced the launch of an automatic weapons accounting system. Thanks to it, it is planned to accelerate the issuance of permits for pistols, rifles, carbines, etc., as well as strengthen control in this market.
The pilot project was implemented with the participation of Ibis, a company engaged in the sale of weapons. A gun workstation was organized with a label reader and fingerprint scanner, a basic version of the software was developed, and special radio marks were applied to the weapon.
According to the deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Sergey Goncharov, the project is the first step towards keeping records of weapons online, and not on paper.
We will scale this project throughout the country in order to automate the weapons rooms in our department, as well as make the control of accounting for weapons more transparent and safe, "he said. |
Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Digital Information Dmitry Shemet emphasized that a decision was created on the hidden placement of radio markers in various types of weapons - pistols, carbines, rifles, and checked their endurance in regular shooting. In complex with fingerprint scanners, label readers and special software, the solution allows you to keep a fully paperless automatic record of the turnover of firearms and carry out operational monitoring of their location, he explained.
According to Shemet, such a decision will be proposed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Defense for implementation in their own weapons rooms.
The Ministry of Digital Affairs noted that the next step of the project can be adapted to control the turnover of other categories where this control is required at the legislative level - medical and narcotic drugs, excise goods.[1]
