2023: CyberDog 2 robot dog announcement

On August 14, 2022, Xiaomi announced a new generation robotic dog - CyberDog 2. Compared to the original CyberDog model, which debuted in 2021, the robop has become smarter and gained a large number of additional skills.

Outwardly, CyberDog 2 resembles a Doberman. With a height of about 37 cm, the robot weighs a little less than 9 kg. The equipment includes a navigation and orientation system in space based on 19 sensors, including a 13-megapixel camera with artificial intelligence, four ToF (Time of Flight) sensors, lidar, four microphones, a stage depth camera, a module with a fish eye lens with a viewing angle of 146 degrees, a force sensor, two ultra-wideband sensors and an ultrasonic module. Thanks to this arsenal, robopes has vision, touch and hearing.

The robot is equipped with Xiaomi CyberGear patented micro-drives that provide high maneuverability, allow you to perform complex tricks and make it possible to quickly get on your paws after falling from any position (there is also protection against overturning). The dog may, for example, perform continuous backflips. The dog is also capable of running at speeds up to 1.6 m/s.

CyberDog 2 is endowed with a self-learning artificial intelligence system that was developed using 30,000 dog models. The robot is able to respond to voice commands and recognize faces. The dog's electronic brain is a specialized neuroprocessor with a performance of 21 TOPS (trillions of operations per second). In addition, two coprocessors are involved. The robot exactly imitates the behavior and habits of an ordinary pet.

The new robop is offered in several color options at an estimated price of 13 thousand yuan (approximately $1800 at the exchange rate on August 21, 2023).[1]

2021: Robot Dog Announcement

On August 10, 2021, Xiaomi announced CyberDog, a four-legged open source robot designed for developers who can build on it and create their own applications for it.

The machine, reminiscent of Boston Dynamics' more powerful version of Spot, is a demonstration of Xiaomi's engineering know-how, including patented servo motors. As a control device, the NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX version is used, which was named the world's smallest AI supercomputer. In terms of the ability to know the world, CyberDog has 11 sensors on its body, including sensor and ultrasonic sensors, cameras and GPS navigators to make it comfortable to interact with the environment.

Xiaomi claims that this technology is effective enough for CyberDog to follow its owner to various places, both in an apartment or house, and with access to the street. Also, the system includes a function that is designed to bypass various kinds of obstacles and it is able to determine the pose and track emotions on the human face, which allows it to select and track an individual person (owner) in the group. Of course, this technique is not cheap, and those who want to take part in the project will have to pay $1.5 thousand to purchase one CyberDog.

Instead of selling it on an industrial scale, the company is set to launch just 1,000 such devices for Xiaomi fans, engineers and robotics enthusiasts to jointly explore CyberDog's huge capabilities. This will contribute to the development of the open source community, under the second step could be the construction of a robotics laboratory, which will pave the way for future innovation.[2]
