History

2021: Raising $10 million

In mid-September 2021, Chaldal raised $10 million as part of the Series C investment round. The company plans to use the funds raised to expand its business in major cities of Bangladesh.

The latest round of funding was led by Wise co-founder Taavet Hinricus, Topia chief executive officer Sten Tamkivi, as well as the Russian venture capital fund Xploration Capital and Mir Group.

Chaldal previously attracted investments from Y Combinator, IDLC Finance, the International Finance Corporation and the state venture capital fund Startup Bangladesh. According to Crunchbase, Chaldal raised a total of $24.8 million in funding over five rounds.

In 2020, Chaldal received revenue of $40 million and served 2.5 million orders, an increase of about 120% compared to 2019.

By September 2021, the company offers about 8,500 items, by the end of the year it plans to expand the range to 30 thousand items. Chaldal has 27 warehouses located in four cities - Dhaka, Narayanganj, Chattogram and Jashore, the company plans to expand their number to 15.

In pandemic times, Chaldal partnered with global organizations such as the World Food Program (WFP) and the UN Children's Fund to provide food and other basic necessities to refugees in Cox Bazar.

According to LightCastle Partners, Chaldal's funding increased the total amount raised by Bangladeshi startups to $125 million in 2021. Of this amount, $121 million came from foreign sources.[1]
