2021: Announcement of a porter robot
At the end of September 2021, Piaggio Fast Forward, a subsidiary of the Italian automobile company Piaggio, released its second robot, a compact version of its Gita cargo bot - called Gitamini.
The shape and functions of Gitamini remained the same as the full-size Gita. The robot consists of two large wheels, a central hobby and a machine vision system by which the device determines its owner and follows him. Gitamini weighs 12.7 kg and can carry up to 9.07 kg in its cabin at a distance of 33.79 km. This makes an interesting comparison with Gita, which can carry 18.14 kg, but only 19.31 km.
Gitamini uses an array of cameras and sensors, including radar (not available for the original Gita), to navigate and follow its user. To activate the follow mode, just stand in front of Gitamini and press the fillet button. After that, the robot will entrench to you using only vision (GPS and Bluetooth are not used), and will follow you at a speed of up to 9.66 km per hour. The trunk of the robot can be locked and disabled, but there are no active theft protection features.
No one needs the stolen Gita, because a secure connection to the phone is used to unlock, update and use it. We have not yet had to learn about the theft or hacking of Gita during use or in the parking lot, "said Piaggio Fast Forward CEO Greg Lynn. |
Gitamini costs $1.8 thousand, while the price of the original Gita will drop to $2.9 thousand.
In September 2021, Gita robots operate at eight US airports (including JFK and LAX) and several other planned settlements, such as Water Street Tampa in Florida and Ontario Ranch in California.[1]
