2021: Plans for the production of computer technology on domestic processors

Sila, a subsidiary of IBS Platformix, plans to launch servers based on domestic Elbrus 16C processors by the summer of 2022. The company announced this at the end of October 2021. At the same time, Sila warns that already in 2022 the Russian market may face an acute shortage of domestic chips.

According to the company, the first batches of domestic Elbrus 16C chips should appear on the market in early 2022. However, according to the general director of Sila Shamil Aminev, it is already clear that the declared volume is not able to meet the needs of domestic manufacturers of server equipment and storage (storage systems), since demand is multiple of supply. The situation is aggravated by uncertainty about the timing of the introduction of requirements for equipment of domestic production: the draft resolution "On Amendments to the Annex to the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of July 17, 2015 No. 719." According to the decree, from January 1, 2021, Russian processors were supposed to appear in the storage system. From July 1, 2021 - in laptops and tablets, and from January 1, 2022 on domestic processors should collect servers, desktops, all-in-ones, printers, monitors, etc.

SILA SR2-542x servers entered in the register of the Ministry of Industry and Trade

According to the general director of Sila, it was previously assumed that the requirement to create domestic servers on Russian chips will enter into force on January 1, 2023, however, the revision available on the portal of draft regulatory legal acts states that the requirement to have Russian-made processors in servers will work from January 1, 2022. The general director of the Force believes that the market is not ready for this, and such a haste can lead to non-market competition, which will ultimately affect customers.

In addition to the server equipment at Elbrus 16C, the company plans to build laptops and desktop computers on the Baikal-M processor for government customers.

Shamil Aminev in a conversation with TAdviser noted that the Russian market, under pressure from foreign and domestic policy, is rapidly changing, and this gives new players, such as Power, a chance to occupy their niche. Moreover, according to him, the company does not intend to compete for the segment of "inexpensive" devices, but will bet on the corporate sector, and specialized equipment.

We ourselves are a small company, which employs several dozen people, but behind us is the power of IBS, which conducts projects not only in Russia, but also in the CIS countries. Today, Sila does not engage in sales at all, our equipment is supplied as part of the projects led by our parent company. Thanks to this, according to the results of 2021, we will show profit, "Shamil Aminev told TAdviser.

The company's production site is located in Balashikha near Moscow. Potentially, the company can assemble up to 1,200 servers per month, up to 100 storage systems, up to 1,000 All-in-Ones and 2,000 laptops. The company admitted that so far production produces significantly less than it can, but they refused to clarify the volumes.

At the same time, "Power" is considering the possibility of entering the mass market with laptops and desktops. In addition, the three-year development program involves entering the markets of far abroad. As possible directions, the general director of "Force" called the countries of Latin America, where prices for electronics are much higher than in Russia.

The creation of the Sila company for IBS is the second attempt to launch the production of computer equipment in Russia. Until 2009, the company owned the manufacturer Depo Computers.

Power counts its history from August 2018, when the OEM IBS Platformix agreement was signed with one of Dell's largest server and computer technology brands. In a separate structure, Sila LLC was allocated in October 2020.
