History

2022: Stryker bought Vocera Communications for $3.09 billion

In early January 2022, Stryker agreed to acquire Vocera Communications, which manufactures intelligent wearables for healthcare professionals, as well as smartphone applications. The transaction should be closed in the first quarter of 2022, and its total value will be $3.09 billion.

Vocera Communications specializes in communication and workflow platforms as well as ON medical facilities. Software allows internal hospital communications and patient-physician communications to improve patient data sharing. Vocera Communications products as of January 2022 are used in more than 2.3 thousand medical institutions, including almost 1.9 thousand hospitals. Among the clients of the company are also hotels, schools, libraries and retail stores.

Now we can start looking at some bigger deals while we continue to pay the debt. Estimates are generally very high, but there are still many goals. We feel confident that we can continue to conduct mergers and acquisitions... and find profitable acquisitions for Stryker. Vocera Communications will help Stryker significantly accelerate our digital aspirations to improve the lives of medical staff and patients, said Stryker CEO Kevin Lobo.

The deal with Vocera Communications could be a continuation of a trend where companies move beyond their normal sectors and buy companies that are more based on digital health systems or data. Shares of the company rose 27%. Analysts were largely in agreement that the deal would be positive for both companies. The strategic value for Stryker is sales and marketing, as analysts expect the company to use its existing sales and healthcare communications staff to further market Vocera Communications products.[1]
