2022: Russia climbed 5 places in the ranking of passports
In January 2022, the consulting company Henley & Partners published its updated world passport rating, which ranks countries by the number of visa-free destinations. Russia in this list is located in 46th place against 51st in the previous edition of the study.
Russia rose five places in the rating after concluding agreements on visa-free entry into Pakistan. By January 2022, with a Russian passport, you can travel to 119 countries without a visa. A little higher in the fourth ten are Moldova, the Marshall Islands, Montenegro, Kiribati and North Macedonia. Since 2009, for Russians, the number of countries with a visa-free regime has almost doubled.
The first 50 countries also included Ukraine (35th place), with its passport you can visit 141 countries without a visa. Belarus - in 65th place, Kazakhstan - in 68. Ukraine rose in the ranking by two places due to the fact that it concluded an agreement on visa-free access with the French overseas territories and Oman. Holders of a Ukrainian passport can travel without a visa or with a visa upon arrival in 141 countries of the world. Georgia ranks 48th with visa-free access.
According to Henley & Partners, in 2006, residents of the planet could visit an average of 57 countries, by the beginning of 2022 this number had grown to 107. But the average increase is accompanied by growing inequalities between the countries of the Global North and the Global South. For example, citizens of Sweden and the United States can visit more than 180 destinations without a visa, while holders of passports of Angola, Cameroon and Laos can move without a visa in only 50 destinations. "
Without taking into account the changing and time constraints associated with coronavirus, passport holders of two Asian countries, Japan and Singapore, can now enter 192 destinations without a visa or with a visa on arrival - 166 more than Afghanistan, which is in the last place of the index.[1]
