Incarnation of the idea

Project to move the corporate personnel management system to the Yandex cloud started on January 1, 2020. It took place in 4 stages for 5 months and was implemented a 7-member EAE-Consult team of consultants.

From January to February, the project was prepared, which included:

• exploring the capabilities and limitations of Yandex.Cloud services from the point of view of
• Placing the SAP HCM HR system in the cloud
• analysis of technical and financial administration capabilities,
• development of a model and approach for optimal allocation of resources in the cloud,
• test placement and adaptation of the resource deployment model,
• deploying SAP infrastructure in the Yandex cloud.

The final step was to develop a roadmap for the migration of the system to the cloud.

In March - April, a test run was carried out on the relocation of the SAP HCM personnel management system to the Yandex cloud, in which the company's consultants worked out the main project bottlenecks:

• set up and tested integration with external systems, including the SAP S/4HANA enterprise management system, which is located in the MS Azure cloud,
• checked the functionality of the SAP HCM HR system,
• performed test archiving and deletion data using the SARA tool,
• developed a detailed plan for moving the production system to the cloud, dividing tasks by minutes.

In May-June, the production management system was migrated SAP HCM staff in the Yandex cloud, which took only 3 days. For business departments working with a human resources system based on SAP HCM, the transformation of the system into a cloud went unnoticed: 30 users did not feel transient process and continue operation of the system in fail-safe mode.

The system operates in production mode without failures and complaints from User Parties.

SUSE Linux Imaging and Certification

SUSE Enterprise Linux is used as the base OS for SAP systems in EAE-Consult as the most convenient and reliable in operation. But during project work there were no SLES images in the Yandex Cloud marketplace. Image customization required OpenSuse to SAP requirements because non-certified SAP solutions are not suitable for systems in industrial operation. Yandex Cloud and EAE-Consult teams jointly prepared and tested images certified for placement SAP systems. Subsequently, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications images were added to the Yandex Cloud Marketplace.

In July 2020, EAE-Consult was certified by SAP HANA Operations and SAP Hosting Operations, which confirmed the qualifications of the company's specialists and guarantees Ensure full functionality of SAP systems in Yandex Cloud.
