2022: High-speed tropospheric link launch

The Roselectronics holding of Rostec State Corporation announced on June 1, 2022 the organization of a high-speed tropospheric communication line between Gorno-Altai and the Seminsky Pass, known among travelers, located at an altitude of 1717 meters. As part of the field tests, a stable data transfer rate of more than 22 Mbps was obtained.

The pilot zone of tropospheric communication was deployed by order of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Altai Republic on the basis of the Groza stations developed by NPP Radio Communications (part of Roselectronics). The data transmission technology used in Thunderstorm is based on the reflection of a signal from the troposphere - the lower layer of the atmosphere. The set of equipment includes an antenna with a diameter of 150 cm, as well as a high-speed digital modem for tropospheric communication. Two transceiver stations are required to establish the link.

The equipment developed by Roselectronics is characterized by low power consumption, ease of deployment and operation. "Thunderstorm" is designed to organize wireless broadband in mountainous, hard-to-reach and sparsely populated areas, along highways and railways, as well as on remote industrial facilities.

To organize the pilot zone, a mountainous area with a complex climate was chosen. The experiment demonstrated the ability of "Thunderstorm" to work stably even in extreme conditions. Based on the results of the tests, we received positive feedback from the customer. High-speed tropospheric communication is a technology that is an economically viable alternative to satellite communications. We are ready to provide remote areas of the Altai Republic, as well as other regions of Russia with broadband data transmission channels,
stated the general director of NPP "Radio Communication" Rinat Galeev.
