2022: Announcement of a new type of navigation for drones
On June 3, 2022, Rostec announced the creation of a new type of navigation for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). It is assumed that the developed technology will make drones almost indestructible.
According to TASS in Rostec, the development does not depend on satellite navigation and is implemented in a closed control loop. This allows the drone to successfully resist electronic warfare, it is impossible to intercept the control of such a drone.
The state corporation stressed that the navigation system showed itself an order of magnitude more accurate than the inertial one. Thanks to the new development, UAV losses can be reduced to isolated cases, Rostec is sure.
Since the beginning of the Russian military special operation in Ukraine, Rostec enterprises have been more actively engaged in developments in the field of UAVs. Thus, Roselectronics introduced a special mobile radar station (radar) to protect against low-flying drones. The system will ensure the security of critical infrastructure facilities. The device can detect small-sized drones at a distance of more than 1000 meters, including at ultra-low altitudes. The radar was created on a domestic element base, weighs only 5 kg and can be used as a wearable device.
As RIA Novosti reported in May 2022, Russian drones developed by ZALA AERO, a member of the Kalashnikov concern (the main shareholder is Rostec), were invulnerable to the Ukrainian military due to a special protected communication line. ZALA drones are also used to detect enemy positions and adjust artillery fire. In addition to them, the Russian military uses Kub kamikaze drones. Ukrainian forces are trying to use electronic warfare against Russian drones, in particular the Bukovel-AD station[1]
