2022: Introduction of slag detection system in steel stream
In May 2022, a joint project between Datana (part of the LANIT group) and the Abinsk Electrometallurgical Plant (AEMZ) was completed, the purpose of which was to reduce the consumption of deoxidizers, ferroalloys and slag-forming materials by minimizing the ingress of furnace slag into the ladle steel during steel production. This was announced on June 3, 2022 by LANIT.
The steel production process was previously controlled on the basis of a visual assessment of the steelmaker. He followed the flow of steel through safety glasses and focused on his color, noise, sparks and his experience. Smelting conditions are accompanied by a high degree of smoke, which often does not allow even an experienced specialist to accurately determine the moment of slag penetration. This leads to the fact that together with the metal, the furnace overoxidated slag enters the steelmaking ladle.
To reduce slag in the bucket, Datana has implemented a comprehensive solution of its own development Datana Sense. Slag detection at the outlet. The solution monitors the release of steel by visually illuminating the slag in the stream, and when the permissible level is exceeded, it generates a light and sound signal. Release control is carried out using an infrared camera of the far spectrum, which allows you to "see" through the smoke, and an artificial intelligence module that accurately detects the presence of furnace slag in the stream.
According to the expert assessment of AEMZ specialists, as a result of the introduction of Datana Sense, the potential savings in deoxidizers, ferroalloys and slag-forming materials can be 10%, and the reduction in electricity consumption can be up to 5%.
In this project, we applied our approach to end-to-end digitalization, for the first time combining our digital adviser with another company's adviser into one value supply chain. This solution has a synergistic effect and will achieve significant savings on expensive alloying materials, said Vladimir Zakharov, CEO of Datana.

"Novosti-M" has a large, not yet fully realized potential in improving the efficiency of its enterprises. We are going to fully disclose it through the use of digital technologies that can significantly reduce costs and increase productivity. It's nice that it is Russian companies, including Datana, that help us in this. noted Anatoly Maslov , Chief information officer of Novosti-M.
