2022: Implementation of the online voting system on the Polys platform

On June 28, 2022, Geekspace announced that the Altai State University for the first time held elections of the Academic Council using the Polys online voting system (TM Kaspersky). This is the first university beyond the Urals to use the Polys online voting system in its practice.

The use of IT solutions built on blockchain technology ensures complete transparency of the voting process, including secret voting, which is very important, for example, for voting for degrees, positions. We are confident that such an online voting system will show the transparency of the electoral process, and in the future the system will be used by other universities in the Altai Territory and Siberia.

explained Iskander Balubaev, director of IT company Geekspace

Altai State University, as an active participant in the federal program "Priority 2030," continues to digitalize the university and introduce technologies to optimize the quality and convenience of various processes. According to federal recommendations, we are striving to switch to domestic software. When we, together with colleagues, tested the Russian Polys system, it turned out that it was more effective than the one used at the university earlier.

There is no need to set up an account to log in to the voting system, as voting forms come to a council member's personal mail - the kind of mail he is confident in being safe. I would like to note that when conducting a secret ballot through Polys, you can clearly see which of the council members took part in the vote, but not what kind of choice the voter made. This is related to the procedure for holding a secret ballot, when the counting commission can see to whom the ballots are distributed (when voting with paper ballots, in this case, the council members sign on the manifest list, since the ballots cannot fall into the wrong hands), but the voting results remain anonymous for the counting commission. I was also pleased with the speed of the system while using it with the full board. The automatic counting of votes by the system eliminates the possibility of errors that may arise when counting votes manually, when the election procedure for 50 candidates is carried out at a council meeting, as at our meetings. In addition, there is a convenient mechanism for voting in alternative elections, in which, for example, four or five people can apply for three vacant positions.

told Svetlana Osokina, scientific secretary of the university

As reported, the Polys online voting system based on blockchain technology provides a proper voting process, and also makes it possible to vote remotely - including using mobile devices.
