2022: Start of neural network tests to spread tramway infrastructure defects

In the depot of the city of Taganrog, Rostov Region, tests of a neural network capable of recognizing possible defects in the tram infrastructure began. This became known on July 13, 2022.

The project is being developed by the Sinara - Transport Machines holding and the Innopolis University, an autonomous non-profit organization for higher education.

The development is necessary to ensure the safety of wagons during the transportation of passengers. Diagnosis of electric vehicles occurs before entering the route. For this, special cameras are used that scan transport. The data is then loaded into the computer system. AI analyzes them and issues an exit permit or ban. The possibility of errors in this case is excluded.

According to the general director of STM Viktor Lesh, a new algorithm has been created that will take into account scientific and production requirements when deciding to bring public transport to the route.

Research surveys were launched on November 1, 2021 and will last until the end of 2024. This became possible thanks to the support of the federal project "Artificial Intelligence" under the auspices of the National Strategy for the Development of Artificial Intelligence until 2030[1].
