2022: Experimental batch of silicon carbide-based high-voltage Schottky diodes

On July 22, 2022, Elsik (a startup of the Center for Nanotechnology and Nanomaterials of the Republic of Mordovia, Fund for Infrastructure and Educational Programs) announced that it had produced an experimental batch of semiconductor devices for domestic power electronics, namely, high-voltage silicon carbide-based Schottky diodes (SiC).

Their production in Russia will reduce the shortage of these devices necessary for the domestic industry.

SiC Schottky diodes are distinguished by high efficiency over the entire load range, radiation resistance, increased temperature range of operation and specific power. These properties provide them with higher efficiency in different voltage converters. For example, replacing Schottky diodes from silicon to silicon carbide allows you to abandon the active cooling system and generally reduce the mass and dimensions of the inverter - an instrument that is used to convert current for the operation of a washing machine, electric trains, satellites, solar and wind power plants, charging stations for electric transport, etc.

Elsik works on a fabless model, has technological competencies and access to Russian production sites, which allow carrying out the entire technological cycle for the production of SiC devices in the country.

The pilot batch was produced according to the technical specifications of Russian enterprises. After passing the tests, the devices will find application in inverters for solar and wind power plants, in railway equipment transport and in infrastructure. electric transport
