2022: EPIC-TGH7
On August 16, 2022, it became known that the company AAEON had developed a single-board computer EPIC-TGH7 on the full-fledged processors Intel Tiger Lake-H series. The buyer has a choice of several modifications, one of which is equipped with an server Xeon processor family.
As reported, despite the expanded capabilities, the EPIC-TGH7 has relatively small dimensions. The dimensions of the board are 115x165 mm. This is significantly less than the mini-ITX motherboard (170x170 mm). The total height of the computer will depend on the cooling system selected by the user.
According to Tom's Hardware, building an Xeon EPIC-TGH7 W-11865MRE can deliver full-size workstation performance. Single-board PC sales will begin soon. The manufacturer has not yet disclosed the cost of all configurations, but it is known that the version with Core i3-11100HE will cost the buyer $812 (49.8 thousand rubles at the Central Bank exchange rate as of August 16, 2022), and with Core i7-11850HE - $1167 (71.6 thousand rubles).
According to the developers, this single-board computer can be used in various industries. As an example, they cite transport and medical spheres, as well as robotics, artificial intelligence, security and industrial automation.
Buyers who want to purchase EPIC-TGH7 will not be able to buy the basic version of it, and then change the processor to a more powerful one in two accounts. This will require special hardware and experience, since the CPUs are soldered on the motherboard.
The basic version of the EPIC-TGH7 has a dual-core Celeron 6600HE at 2.6 GHz, followed by a Core i3-11100HE (four cores, 2.4-4.4 GHz), and followed by a six-core Core i5-11500HE (2.6-4.5 GHz). Top versions include Core i7-11850HE (eight 2.6-4.7 GHz cores) and eight-core Xeon W-11865MRE (2.6-4.7 GHz).
Intel released all of the listed CPUs a year ago; in the third quarter of 2021, it was the Tiger Lake-H line, not the most current, but still quite modern. They are produced according to the most advanced 10 nm process technology for Intel (but not for the rest of the world).
EPIC-TGH7 is considered an embedded solution, but if desired, it can also be used as a desktop PC. Its only difference from a full-fledged desktop, except for compact dimensions, will be the absence of a discrete video card. There is no suitable interface (PCI-E x16) for its connection on the board.
Regardless of the selected processor, the brainchild of AAEON will allow you to install two SODIMM bars DDR4-3200 a total volume of up to 64 GB. There are also two SATA III ports with a bandwidth of 6 Gb/s. Drives or, if necessary, optical drives can be connected to them. For faster drives, there is a M.2 slot with the M key. The supported SSD format is the classic 2280.
In theory, up to four monitors can be connected to a computer. To do this, it has two DisplayPort 1.2a and one HDMI 2.0b and VGA each.
EPIC-TGH7 also have a lot of additional interfaces. This is a PCIe 4.0 x8 slot, an mSATA/mPCIe slot, two 2.5 Gb/s 1 Gb/s LAN ports, six COM ports (four RS-232 and two 232/422/485).
There are eight USB ports at once. Four of them are USB 3.2 Gen2, and the same number of conventional slow USB 2.0 are installed.
The manufacturer's website has drivers for Linux, as well as for Windows 10. The latter means that Windows 11 can also work stably on a PC. [1].
