A budget spherorobot for programming training was developed at the Perm Polytechnic, which was announced by the latter on August 16, 2022.

Every year in Russia there is a significant increase in demand for IT specialists, meanwhile, the educational tools available on the market are not being improved or adapted to the young, growing generation. Since the bar for studying the basics of programming has dropped to kindergartens and elementary school, the developers of the Perm Polytechnic have created a device "SphereSMARTrobot," which will allow teaching the younger generation basic coding in a gaming, interactive form.

According to experts, the robot is a programmable sphere with a diameter of 12 centimeters and a mass of 200 grams. The body is made of ABS plastic. Inside the robot there will be a controller, an electric motor, a sensor system.

Together, our device will be able to move along programmed trajectories, as well as along drawn traces. Landfill routes can be made using cardboard, tape, markers, paints and the like, - said Marat Aptalaev, senior lecturer at the Department of Technical Disciplines.

The robot will be programmed using a mobile application in the visual language Scratch. This will allow even the smallest users to easily create their own programs and immediately observe their execution live. Thanks to the maneuverability of the sphere, children will be able to clearly see the actions of each line of code that they entered to perform the intended operation. For example, go forward, and then turn right, - said Kirill Savvateev, a student of the Department of Technical Disciplines.

As the developers explained, the main advantage over foreign analogues is the cost of the robot - the assembly price should not exceed three thousand rubles.
