2023: Capacity increase to 64MW

On July 20, 2023, IXcellerate announced the connection of new energy capacity to the MOS5 data center located in the south of Moscow. Since the introduction of the first stage of the MOS5 in 2021, the power capacity of the data center has increased almost 4 times and reached 64 MW. The current input can ensure uninterrupted operation of up to 160,000 single-port servers with a capacity of 300 watts each.

Preparatory work for the launch was carried out for six months. During this time, an energy center was equipped, which is fully equipped with solutions for domestic production and production of friendly countries (sections, cells, automatic reserve entry machines, protection equipment). The power center is located on the South Campus in close proximity to the building of the data center itself. It combines 4 distribution transformer substations (RTP) with a capacity of 16 MW each and 40 transformers connected to them 2500 kVA, as well as uninterruptible power supplies and distribution boards. The Data Center Energy Efficiency (PUE) score is less than 1.4.

To increase the efficiency of the object, IXcellerate specialists developed and applied a special load distribution scheme: each data center turbine hall (queue) has a connection simultaneously to all RTPs, which provides higher fault tolerance and optimizes the amount of backup power.

For July 2023, two stages of MOS5 were launched (for 1516 and 836 racks), a total of five phases with a total capacity of more than 4700 racks are planned. After the introduction of the next three queues of MOS5, the company plans to build and launch a MOS6 data center on the South Campus. To provide electricity, MOS6 will need to connect another 56MW. Thanks to the well-coordinated work of IXcellerate and partners, the technical conditions for connecting this input have already been drawn up and obtained with a implementation period of several years. The total energy capacity of both IXcellerate campuses (North and South) with full commissioning (8 data centers) will exceed 280MW.

2022: Opening of the first stage of the data center MOS5

On September 9, 2022, the operator of the commercial network data centers IXcellerate officially opened the first stage of its new, third data center - MOS5. It is the first active facility on the company's South Campus, which is located in, To Moscow Biryulyovo District, and covers an area of 14 hectares.

The new data center is ready for operation: it has 1516 racks, provided with electricity in the amount of 17MW according to the dual redundancy scheme. The company says that all the racks were bought out during the construction phase. Customers include banks, large online retailers and other companies that process large amounts of data.

MOS5 is designed to meet the requirements of Tier III and is designed to accommodate complex solutions of any degree of complexity, including high-load servers and infrastructure for ultra-dense computing with a load of up to 20kW per rack. Among the existing reserves there are applications for hyper-installations (from 250 racks with an IT load of 2MW or more), according to IXcellerate.

The physical security system of the data center, which is provided by six frontiers, is also interesting. In particular, it uses the technology "Data center in data center" (modules are located under the "sarcophagus" of the external building); a contactless Face ID recognition system is installed to control the access level; there is a system of airlocks and turnstiles, round-the-clock video surveillance cameras, motion sensors, etc. are used.

The building has gas analyzers for early detection of smoke together with a combined automatic fire extinguishing system: for machine rooms, the safe gas NOVEC 1230 acts as a fire extinguishing substance, and for the internal fire water supply system − finely dispersed distilled water.

MOS5 is included in the unified telecommunications transport system IXcellerate: it is provided with three connections to cable sewers and connected by optical highways to the North Campus along two independent routes, so that its customers can connect to any of the telecom service providers - IXcellerate partners, as well as to the Eurasia Peering peer-to-peer platform.

The availability of services is guaranteed at a level of at least 99.982%. The response time to customer requests according to the SLA is 30 minutes, but in fact does not exceed 10 minutes, according to IXcellerate. Remote technical support services are provided in Russian and English in 24x7x365 mode. Quality indicators are confirmed by PCI DSS and ISO 9000:9001 certificates.

IXcellerate has already begun construction of the second stage of MOS5 for 836 racks, and more than 75% of them have already been reserved by existing customers, the company says. The full commissioning of all five queues of the data center is scheduled for 2024. Its total capacity will be 4,722 racks, and its power capacity − 64MW. The area of ​ ​ the entire building − 18.5 thousand m2.

As of September, the total number of stands in the entire IXcellerate ecosystem (North and South campuses) is about 5 thousand units. In the period from 2022 to 2031 the company plans to expand both sites, build five more new facilities and maintain positions in the top 3 players in the market of commercial data centers in Russia.

In the future, for 10 years, the IXcellerate ecosystem will have 8 data centers, and the South Campus, with full commissioning, will become the largest data center platform among neutral operators of commercial data centers in Europe, the company expects.
