2022: Smart home sensors announced in updated cases
On December 3, 2022, Eltex introduced smart home sensors in updated cases using Z-Wave technology. The changes affected the SZ-MCT opening sensors, the SZ-PIR movement and the SZ-WLK leakage of the Security and Comfort services of the Eltex smart home.
According to the company, the design of the sensors has been completely revised. They retained compactness, the location of the sensors was changed and the equipment was supplemented. For example, the SZ-MCT opening sensor is smaller and lighter than the previous model. The kit includes both large and small magnets, making it easy to install the sensor on both the door and the window. For installation in hard-to-reach places, the set includes a remote magnet on a wire 2 meters long.
The SZ-WLK leakage sensor, unlike the previous model, has a single body without detail elements. It is protected from moisture ingress into the body (IP65) and can be located on any non-conductive surface. The updated version of the SZ-PIR motion sensor now has a built-in light sensor. In addition to the main functionality of motion detection, it will help automate the switching on of light in the evening and prevent it from turning on during the day.
The hardware of the sensors is based on the latest version of Z-Wave technology for December 2022. It gives the following possibilities:
- The updated sensors are more energy efficient in both sleep and active mode. Due to this, the devices operate from one cell longer than the previous generation sensors.
- Increased the distance from the sensor to the controller in the room at line of sight up to 100 meters.
- The sensors support the simple SmartStart installation function. The sensors have already recorded the necessary settings and scenarios for pairing with the controller, due to which it is easier to add sensors to the smart home system in just a few actions.
- The S2 protocol prevents data interception and protects the smart home system from outside penetration. A 128-bit key eliminates decryption of data, and good optimization - the effect of encryption on the operation of devices in the form of delays, a drop in data transfer rate and an increase in battery consumption.
- Opening and motion sensors support FLiRS mode. Thanks to this, they do not go into deep sleep mode and every second "communicate" with the smart home controller for up-to-date information. This allows you to respond to emergency situations, which is important for working within the framework of the Security service. In this case, the battery is consumed sparingly.
With the help of the Eltex Home application, as well as the Comfort and Safety services, which include opening, movement and leak sensors, the user monitors home safety and comfort in them. The smart home Eltex will report any abnormal situation through push notifications or using an alarming vibration and sound alert.
Opening, motion and leakage sensors are suitable for scripting in conjunction with other smart home devices. For example, using a smart relay with a motion sensor, you can automate the switching on and off of lights in the corridor or in the kitchen. And if you set the opening sensor to turn on the lighting using a smart outlet or relay, when the front door is opened, the light in the corridor will automatically turn on.
