2022: Development of a two-phase cooling system

Bauman Moscow State Technical University has developed two-phase cooling systems for high-performance electronics. The university announced this on December 12, 2022.

The small-sized demonstrator "Drop" has a motherboard 4E8SV-MSWTX JSC "MCST" with 4 coprocessors of the NTC "Module." Heat removal of elements is carried out due to boiling of dielectric heat carrier with its subsequent condensation on special surface.

The hardware and software complex "Kapel" includes a server rack designed for 12 nodes with a motherboard 4E8SV-MSWTX JSC "MCST" and 4 coprocessors of the NTC "Module," as well as an engineering rack, which contains the equipment necessary for the operation of the engineering rack.

According to university experts, the two-phase cooling method used is the most effective for December 2022, surpassing the air, water and oil cooling of electronics. This quality is achieved due to the heat of the phase transition when boiling the dielectric liquid.

The results of this development can be used to cool computing equipment in data centers, supercomputers. Development has good prospects due to greater energy efficiency compared to analogues.

The work was carried out in cooperation with JSC MCST and JSC NTC Module.
