2023: Product Announcement

On May 19, 2023, Bridgestone announced Turanza EV tires designed specifically for electrified vehicles. It is claimed that the novelty solves the problem of rapid wear inherent in ordinary tires when used on electric cars.

Bridgestone says that tires on electric vehicles wear out about 30% faster on a par with vehicles equipped with an internal combustion engine. This happens for two main reasons: electrified cars due to the battery pack are significantly heavier than classmates with a gasoline or diesel engine, while the dynamics of their acceleration are usually higher. Meanwhile, increased tire wear can contribute to poor air quality in large cities with more electric cars. When developing Turanza EV, Bridgestone specialists took into account all these points.

The new tires use the proprietary Enliten technology to optimize all-season characteristics and reduce wear. The tires include a special polymer PeakLife, which reduces rolling resistance. A special tread pattern helps to reduce noise levels. In addition, it is claimed that tires provide confident handling on wet roads, which increases traffic safety.

Turanza EV tires are offered for Tesla's Model 3, Model S, Model X, Model Y and Ford Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles, with 13 additional sizes coming in early 2024. The cost is from $289 per piece, depending on the modification. The manufacturer provides a warranty for 50 thousand miles, or 80 thousand km of mileage. It is also noted that products are 50% made up of renewable and recyclable materials, which reduces the negative impact on the environment.[1]
