On May 26, 2023, it became known that it Canadian Sheep Federation intends to introduce technology AgroLedger based on a database blockchain for tracking livestock data.
Some farmers are already using the system. The complex provides for the use of small identification marks with an RFID chip, which are attached to the animal. These measures contain a unique number - you can read it using a special scanner. Further, detailed information is downloaded from the database: thus, the farmer can quickly get comprehensive information about a specific copy - date of birth, medical history, data on previously observed food problems, etc.
The Canadian Sheep Federation plans to form a blockchain platform in the interests of farmers and market participants - a decentralized distributed database that cannot be hacked because copies of it are stored on a large number of computers. It is assumed that anyone who is engaged in sheep farming or purchases relevant products will be able to learn almost everything about a specific animal using a smartphone application. We are talking about providing information from the moment of birth of the lamb to implementation. Moreover, such reports may vary depending on the target audience: for example, regulators will be able to obtain more detailed data than consumers.
In particular, lamb packaging in a grocery store may have a QR code for scanning information about its origin and processing, including whether the animal was raised in accordance with a certain feeding regime. In addition, the new technology will help in tracking the condition of sheep to combat the spread of disease. The ultimate goal of the project is to make life easier for farmers, improve food quality and reduce the likelihood of epidemics occurring in livestock environments.[1]
