2023: Use of "Cyber Files"

On May 29, 2023, Cyberprotect announced the introduction of its own Cyber Files product for secure file exchange and synchronization.

Cyberprotect employees working in the office, hybrid or completely remotely, need access to corporate data from any device at any time - employees are located in more than 30 cities, in different time zones. In addition, they need to synchronize files between the local computer and the storage server, and use a secure environment to interact and share files of any size with colleagues and external users - customers, partners and suppliers.

This "Cyberprotect" tasks required a system that easily integrates into the existing infrastructure, supports security policies, integrates with Active Directory, securely stores files and data, and can be deployed within the company's infrastructure. As a result, Cyberprotect developed such a system and implemented it at home.

Previously, many private solutions were used for file exchange by employees of Cyberprotect departments, including FTP servers, public clouds, as well as Microsoft products: OneDrive and SharePoint.

The implementation of the Cyber Files file sharing and synchronization solution was intended to unify file sharing within the company and with counterparties. A test group of employees from two departments of the company received this tool about a year and a half ago, the implementation in the late stages of development had the character of closed alpha testing. The company gradually shifted file exchange to its own solution, connecting new departments to it as it identified the needs of colleagues, developed and implemented additional functionality and solved detected problems. By mid-2022, the transition to its own solution was generally completed, which was very useful, given the departure of Microsoft from the Russian market, which led to problems with renewing subscriptions to services for existing employees and acquiring subscriptions for new employees.

From that moment, the company moved to the stage of closed beta testing, which in the fall of 2022 ended with the release of the Cyber Files product on the market.

At the end of May 2023, Cyber Files in the company are used by 237 employees and about 150 external users. The total amount of attached storage is 6 TB, of which 2.3 TB has already been used. The following types of data stores are connected to the system: SMB network shares and Microsoft SharePoint document folders. The system is deployed in a software-defined infrastructure based on its own hyperconverged Cyber Infrastructure solution: software-defined storage is used, server components are installed on a virtual server under the control of the built-in hypervisor. Fault tolerance is provided on the hyperconverged solution side and includes the evacuation of a virtual machine with server components in the event of a host failure, while data is protected in redundancy mode by replication.

Data backup is provided by the Cyber Backup RMS, also developed by Cyberprotect, at the hypervisor level (without the use of agents in guest virtual machines), backups are sent, including to software-defined storage, where they are protected in redundancy mode by replication.

Recently, Cyber Files is our tool for collecting and storing the diagnostic information necessary to process our customers' applications: logs, dumps and configurations, as well as to provide custom assemblies with corrected defects. Previously, we used FTP servers for this, but this was inconvenient due to low speed and file size restrictions, and public clouds - refused for security reasons. After switching to Cyber Files, the file sharing process became centralized, predictable and significantly faster - which immediately affected our metrics - such as the average processing time and decision of the application, the user satisfaction index, - said Dmitry Ermolaev, head of the software support department at Cyberprotect.

Due to the local deployment in the corporate infrastructure, Cyberprotect was able to provide maximum control over the storage, exchange and use of data.

Integration with AD for authentication, user account management, and device registration has enabled flexible file and folder access control. Built-in security - Delete user accounts (for example, external, after a certain period of time), protecting files from being deleted from the server when an employee leaves, managing devices, including the ability to remotely clean files from lost mobile devices and remotely reset the application password if an account is suspected of being compromised, ensured the implementation of secure storage and file access policies, and space quotas and automatic storage cleanup made it possible to optimize server space.
