2023: Signing agreement on pilot implementation of AI-based bowel cancer detection system

On July 12, 2023, it became known that the company EvaLab signed an agreement on the pilot implementation of a detection system bowel cancer based AI Polyptron on in clinics and. Sverdlovsk Chelyabinsk regions

As reported, Polyptron is a medical decision support system for colonoscopy. EvaLab has developed an algorithmcomputer vision capable of recognizing neoplasms, focal inflammation, and lower GI abnormalities. The solution allows you to detect early signs of bowel cancer (polyps) in real time, optimizing the quality of diagnosis (detectability) from 74% to 98%.

According to the results of experimental operation, the technology received a positive assessment from the doctors of the Chelyabinsk Regional Clinical Center for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine.

I am glad that the innovative developments of the South Urals are becoming in demand in other regions. The computer vision algorithm developed by EvaLab will not only optimize the quality of diagnostics in medical institutions, but also increase the life expectancy of the population as a whole.

An agreement has been signed that puts the diagnosis of colon cancer at the next level. We know that for the Chelyabinsk region, and for the Sverdlovsk region, and for Russia as a whole, the diagnosis of colorectal cancer is a direction that contains potential in early diagnosis, as a result of which the number of detections at late stages decreases.

Denis Demidov, Deputy Minister of Health of the Sverdlovsk Region, chief freelance oncologist of the Ministry of Health

Piloting the project in two constituent entities of the Russian Federation at once will optimize the accuracy of the Polyptron system, and will also work out the possibility of integrating the system with endoscopic equipment from various manufacturers.

The Polyptron system, using a neural network, detects early signs of bowel cancer in real time on an endoscope video image and prompts a doctor during a colonoscopy procedure. As part of the pilot implementation, the effectiveness of the use of artificial intelligence to reduce the risks of cancer will be tested.
