In the structure of the university, we are creating a new educational institute - the Institute of Physics and Quantum Engineering. This is a logical course of the entire development of the university - from the Faculty of Physics and Chemistry, which was, to the Department of Theoretical Physics Alexei Alekseevich Abrikosov and the new Institute of Physics and Quantum Engineering, - said the first vice-rector of NUST MISIS Sergey Salikhov.

According to him, the new structure at the initial stage will be small - about 400 students will study at the institute on the horizon of the next few years. Speaking about the peculiarities of studying at the new institute, Sergey Salikhov noted that the key aspect of training such specialists is the ability to quickly adapt the educational program to changing conditions:

We have to find a balance between fundamental and practical training. Create a system in which students will be most involved in project activities, solving specific applied problems. In addition, we must also take into account the expectations of the students themselves. Today's students want to be part of big ambitious projects that change the world and want to be happy at the same time. And in this sense, quantum technologies fit this request best, as they help to create something that was not there before, including to improve people's lives.

It is noted that personnel training and research in the field of quantum technologies is one of the areas of work of NUST MISIS. On its basis, in particular, the Competence Center of the National Technological Initiative (NTI) "Quantum Communications" and the Scientific and Educational Center for Quantum Engineering operate.[1]

As NUST MISIS reported on September 26, 2023, PhD, head of the laboratory "Quantum Information Technologies" NUST MISIS and RCC Alexey Fedorov was appointed Director of the Institute of Physics and Quantum Engineering.[2]
