Biography

Anatoly Karachinsky was born on July 12, 1959 in Moscow.

He graduated from the Moscow Institute of Railway Engineers with a degree in systems engineering.

From 1981 to 1986 worked at the Computing Center at the All-Union Research Institute of Railway Transport.

From 1986 to 1988 worked as director of the Russian branch of the Austrian company Prosystem (computer equipment).

Since 1988  - Technical Director of the Intermicro joint venture.

1992: Foundation of IBS

In 1992 , Anatoly left Intermicro and, together with Sergei Matsotsky, decided to do the business "as you want, and as it is right." In exchange for a promise not to become a direct competitor (that is, not to sell office equipment), the novice entrepreneur received a kind of "compensation" from former employers - the opportunity to independently implement the project received at Intermicro.

1992-1997  - President of IBS.

Since 1997 , Karachinsky has been president of IBS Group Holding.

In the early 2000s, Anatoly Karachinsky was very fond of politics. At the same time, there were rumors that he intends to go abroad, not wanting to repeat the fate of Mikhail Khodorkovsky

In the late 1990s, IBS approached the Yukos oil company. In 1998, IBS won the Yukos tender for maintenance and maintenance of the entire IT infrastructure of the oil holding. Already in 2000, the entire infrastructure complex of the Moscow segment of the Yukos corporate network (more than 1,500 users) was served by IBS specialists. The corporate network was also managed in 24 regions of the Russian Federation (about 7,000 users) and about 200 customer's gas stations were supported.

This project was completed in 2001 by the agreed procedure for withdrawing from outsourcing and the transfer to Yukos of the completed infrastructure for supporting information systems for further independent operation.

Meanwhile, IBS-Yukos cooperation has been rocked by conflicts at the personnel level. Sergey Shashurin, in 1997-99. who worked as director of the department for work with enterprises in the oil and gas industry at IBS, in December 2000 moved to the post of first vice president of the subsidiary system integrator of Yukos - Sibintek (in early 2003 he became president of Sibintek, where he worked until 2008). At the same time, Ilya Ponomarev, who worked as the Chief information officer of Yukos and created Sibintek, together with the team of the venture capital firm Arrava owned by Sibintek, moved to IBS in January 2002, where he took the post of vice president for strategic projects. Ponomarev worked at IBS for about 1.5 years, after which he took up politics and became a State Duma deputy.

In addition, as the Kommersant newspaper wrote in 2002, Sibintek began to experience difficulties in implementing a number of projects, because the general director of the Sibintek subsidiary Imeco, Marat Yarullin, took up business development at IBS as a freelance employee.

Karachinsky is known for the fact that in 2001 he became the organizer of the first meeting of Russian IT businessmen with the president. Russia Vladimir Putin It was said that in the early 2000s, Karachinsky claimed the post of minister, information technology but lost in the hardware struggle. Leonid Reiman

As the magazine "Svoy Business" (June, 2007) notes , Karachinsky gives the impression of a rather modest person for his position. Anatoly Mikhailovich was considered the main lobbyist of the Russian IT industry (The Firm's Secret, 2006 ).

At this time, the founder of the IBS group Anatoly Karachinsky prefers to spend his free time in the society of famous businessmen, politicians, athletes and musicians (see the selection of photographs). However, not all businessmen with whom Karachinsky meets "without a tie" become reliable partners of IBS.

Regarding the informatization of the United Confectioners holding (with its head Artem Kuznetsov, Anatoly Karachinsky plays golf and swims on a yacht), two large projects are known - the introduction of an ERP system and an EDMS. The IBS did not take part in any of them. The integrator in the first project was BDO Unicon, in the second - Digital Design.

Several information systems were introduced in the Pronto-Moscow holding (its head Leonid Makaron was also seen in Karachinsky's society at the sailing regatta). The implementation of BI, BPM, CPM projects was carried out by the integrator Columbus IT. The implementation of the Axapta ERP system in 2004 was carried out by IBS, but when migrating to a newer version in 2009, Pronto-Moscow decided to use the services of Norbit (part of Lanit).

In the late 2000s IBS , the main priorities are maintaining the achieved level of the group (current training of employees, updating technical means), deepening strategic areas of IT, new developments, and creating a branch network. Karachinsky was sure that by about 2026 the company IBS would become much larger in size, that it would employ 60-80 thousand people.

At the time of its inclusion American in the sanctions list, there is no information on the current composition of the supervisory board on the organization's website.

Otkritie Bank, along with a number of other Russian financial organizations, fell under US sanctions on February 24, 2022, the day Russia's special operation in Ukraine began.

Karachinsky is on the list of persons under blocking sanctions (SDN). This is a list of individuals and entities whose assets and property, if located in the United States or in the possession of an American person, are considered blocked. No person in the United States, whether natural or legal, has the right to enter into any transactions with a person on the SDN list.

Departure from IBS Board of Directors

On May 11, 2022, it became known that Anatoly Karachinsky left the board of directors of the IBS IT group, co-founded by a businessman. This happened against the background of the entrepreneur getting into the American sanctions list.

According to Interfax, citing the IBS press service, Anatoly Karachinsky's resignation from the company's board of directors "will not affect the operating activities and further development of the company." At the same time, the group did not name the reasons why the co-founder left the board of directors. He was also left by the ex-financial director of the company Yulia Yukhadi.

The source of the publication in the information security market believes that for IBS sanctions are critical both in terms of the supply of equipment, for example, for information security, and in terms of working with partners abroad.

Quotes and interviews

About entrepreneurship

According to Karachinsky, a businessman must constantly come up with something and be prone to risk "An entrepreneur is generally, in my opinion, a very dangerous profession, since he has to risk more often than others. An entrepreneur must necessarily be a creative thinking person. At the same time, he can be a bad manager. So, for example, I consider myself, first of all, an entrepreneur and, to a lesser extent, a big manager "(" The Secret of the Company, "2006 ).

I am convinced that the leadership position most often implies not a decrease in work, but an increase in it. "The leadership position implies a high level of commitment to a significantly larger range of issues. And those commitments are some of the best incentives to work. "

About plans to create a national OS "'(July 2010)

I would start with the question: can someone create an OS in Russia? Usually around the world, states work with those companies that have proven their success in the market. I do not know a single Russian company that has demonstrated impressive success in the Russian or foreign market. When I talk about success, I mean that she sold and then supported at least 100,000 users on the open market. This is the first thing that is not clear to me about this project.

Secondly, any such investment must be economically calculated. But so far I have not seen any feasibility study of the project that would take into account the costs of switching to a new system. The amount of costs depends on the amount of money that needs to be spent on creating a new OS, building distribution and training channels, and a support system. A lot of money also needs to be invested in the adaptation of application software, as well as in the adaptation of a number of existing systems operating with customers (in particular with the state). In the absence of a feasibility study, these plans resemble the ideas of transferring northern rivers to the south, or ideas about oil production at the North Pole.

Thirdly, it seems to me that the development of any traditional OS is simply not relevant now. We are on the cusp of huge technological change in the world. In two years, the concept of the OS will fundamentally change, as the computer devices themselves will change, which we will use. The whole world will switch to other principles of information processing, other technological platforms. This will happen quite quickly, within 2-3 years. The emergence of clouds, rapid migration to new principles of mobility, fundamental changes in telecom. The dying of a heavy "client," which personified the OS, the migration of applications and most services to the "cloud." All this suggests that the world is going one way - forward, and we are looking back.

Therefore, taking into account all these comments, it seems to me that the issue requires a deeper and more professional approach.
