A fedproject to combat hepatitis C is being launched in Russia. Basic provisions

On August 8, 2024, it became known that the implementation of a new federal project to combat hepatitis C, which will become part of the national project "Long and Active Life," is beginning in Russia. The main goal of the initiative is to significantly reduce the number of cases of chronic viral hepatitis C (HGS) by 2030.

According to Vedomosti, the head of the Ministry of Health Mikhail Murashko presented the key parameters of the project at a meeting of the ministry and the Popular Front. According to the minister, the project includes five targets, among which is the cure of 334,019 people from HGS by 2030. In 2023, this figure was 34,122 cured patients.

The federal project also provides for the provision of preferential medicines to 154,698 people by 2030. Drugs will be purchased at the expense of the federal budget, and patients will be able to receive them on an outpatient basis. In 2023, funding for these drugs from the budget was not provided.

According to the project target, by 2030, 95% of patients with HCV, whose data are entered in the federal register of viral hepatitis, will receive the necessary medical care. Registration of patients in this registry will begin in 2024.

The number of patients who have completed a full course of antiviral therapy in a day hospital for compulsory medical insurance should increase to 199,998 people by 2030. In 2023, there were 13,084 such patients. The introduction of screening for viral hepatitis C is also an important part of the project. By 2030, it is planned to cover 67.6 million people, while in 2023 this figure amounted to 23.8 million people.

In November 2022, the government approved an action plan to reduce the spread of chronic viral hepatitis C in Russia until 2030. One of the most important elements of this plan was the creation of a federal register of patients suffering from this disease.

Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said that in 2023 almost 50,000 patients with hepatitis C underwent treatment. Every year it is planned to provide treatment to more than 60,000 additional people, which will reduce the number of patients to 15-20% annually.[1]
