File Replication Engine

Aerodisk announced on August 22, 2024 that its main DSS lines had received a file replication mechanism.

This functionality complements the capabilities of the already implemented block replication and is designed to provide reliable replication data using NFS (Network File System) or SMB (Server Message Block) file protocols, which is especially required for the tasks of large Enterprise customers.

This functionality is implemented as asynchronous replication with the transfer of snapshots to other DSS. The update will solve file storage problems, create NFS and SMB storage for virtualization systems, web application servers and other business problems. The tool is also ideal for transport file systems, EDC directories, and other critical business applications.

The full project cycle from idea to implementation took one year: it was carried out by a small development team for one of our anchor customers, who had long expected this functionality in Russian DSS.

The development process included several stages: formulation and coordination of requirements, study of possible implementation ways in terms of optimal technologies, transfer to development, testing, assessment and approval of final solutions. The development of backend from the start focused on support API for communication with frontend version v.2.0 and higher.

Testing functionality was successfully performed in the standard Aerodisk test loop. At the same time, the developers were able to test the work with a productive load and work out all the use cases for one of the large customers at the MVP stage. The functionality is released with the mark "beta." It is planned that after several releases, in the absence of critical errors and blocking factors, the "beta" mark from the functionality will be removed, and the version ON for DSS v.4.6 will be released without it.

File replication will be available on the Airfield DSS AQ440 and AQ450, but not supported on entry-level devices.

Release of DSS Engine AQ Light

On June 11, 2024, Aerodisk announced the release of the entry-level ENGINE AQ Light storage system based on the Aquarius hardware platform.

ENGINE AQ Light has four basic configurations: two hybrid (AQL08/ AQL18) and two all-flash (AQL19/AQL38), with four expansion options for hybrid and two for all-flash DSS configurations.

All ENGINE AQ Light configurations are equipped with four Xeon processors with a total of 32 cores and 128 GB of RAM, which ensures reliable and stable operation of critical applications in conditions of limited IT budget.

Performance is provided by all-flash support, hybrid caching, and QOS functionality. The disk subsystem works with capacity up to 24 disks of SSD/NL SAS, supporting SSD SAS capacity up to 3.84TB and HDD NL_SAS up to 18TB.

As standard, the DSS system has four 10/25 SFP + Ethernet ports for block access over iSCSI and file access over NFS and SMB/CIFS.

As an option, you can add Fibre Channel ports, in which case the DSS have FC 16Gb interfaces (4 ports per system).

Fault tolerance is provided by the HA cluster of controllers and RAID 10, 50, 60 and 60P (triple parity). The DSS support local data protection through snapshots, auto-snapshots, clones, and consistency groups.

Save and reduce storage costs with support for thin volumes and data compression and deduplication capabilities. The system is controlled through a Russian-language interface with a linux-like command line and support for the Restful API, which provides flexibility and ease of use.
